Glenbard West High School will hold its Commencement for the Class of 2022 at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 19, 2022. Our teachers and administrators are looking forward to this ceremony that will recognize the accomplishments of the Class of 2022. We know how hard they have worked to achieve their goals and prepare themselves for life beyond high school. Most have built relationships and connections within the school that will last a lifetime. We would like to emphasize the importance of exiting with pride and acknowledge that the most important tradition is for our seniors to end the school year with positive memories and enriching experiences. Our faculty and staff are hard at work planning a commencement ceremony that will allow your graduate and family members the opportunity to celebrate this special moment.
The administration, faculty and staff at West believe that it is important to make the end of the year special for seniors. We know that our seniors and their parents share this objective. We have worked with student leadership and planned a number of activities that are designed to maintain expectations, celebrate the accomplishments and recognize the achievements of our graduates.
As we look forward to this year’s culminating activities, we will maintain our expectations for serious work and proper behavior through the last day of student attendance. There have been unfortunate times when a graduating senior used poor judgment during these last days in high school and engaged in campus vandalism or improper conduct. Please realize that such behavior could jeopardize that student's participation in the commencement ceremony and/or result in more serious consequences. This year we have held meetings with senior leaders to hear their concerns and make sure our expectations are known and clear. Also, remember that there are NO "Senior ditch days" and students who miss school for unauthorized reasons will face academic and disciplinary consequences. We appreciate the support we receive from parents in maintaining a respectful and safe environment for all students throughout the school year.
We look forward to sharing this commencement with our families and the Class of 2022. Commencement will be an occasion where we reflect the significance of their accomplishments and the pride we all feel on their behalf. Please contact me with any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Chris Mitchell
Assistant Principal for Student Services

Congratulations Dean Carroll - Son of the American Revolution Outstanding Citizenship Award Recipient
The criteria for this award are extensive and include dependability, honesty, courtesy, respect, leadership and patriotism.
To excel in all of these characteristics is truly exceptional. In fact, this Outstanding Citizenship Award is designed to honor only one senior student at Glenbard West each year.
IHSA All-State Academic Team
Congratulations to Glenbard West student Caden Pierce on being one of 26 students named to the IHSA All-State Academic Team. Team members needed to have a minimum 3.50 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale after their seventh semester, have participated in at least two IHSA-sponsored activities during each of the last two years of high school and demonstrated outstanding citizenship. He will be recognized by the IHSA at a banquet in April.
Congratulations Anastasia Jimenez
Ms. Ochoa shares “I have seen first-hand how Anastasia has grown as a student and has developed her leadership skills. She is extremely kind, open-minded, and has a huge heart. She has taken a very rigorous course load of classes and been able to achieve a 5.3/5.0 GPA. This is no easy feat at all but she has been successful because of her dedication, organization, and drive for her future. Through the many courses that she has taken, she has realized that she is interested in pursuing a degree in either biology or biomedical engineering. Not only is she challenging herself academically, but she is also very involved in her extra-extra-curricular activities.”
Mr. Moran echoes this praise by saying “Glenbard West, is rich in tradition and excellence and we have a wall dedicated to our Distinguished Alumni. We boast CEO’s, Academy Award winners, Genius grant recipients, and the best pinball designer ever. Anastasia Jimenez’s face and biography will one day adorn the wall here at Glenbard West. In my 16 years of experience, she represents the best and brightest of our community.” Mr. Moran continues “When Anastasia was in junior high she began her own independent business. On her own, she taught herself to sew, market her products by filming the process and promoting via social media, ship worldwide, communicate with customers, manage finances, and ultimately created a successful business from the ground up. Every product she creates sells out in less than 5 minutes, she has 85,000 Instagram followers, and two of her Youtube videos have 1.5 million views. She has sold and shipped her items all over North America and to almost all European countries. No one told her to do this, no one mentored her, she developed this entire product line, sales, marketing, and logistics COMPLETELY INDEPENDENTLY.”
Anastasia is an incredible young person with immense talent and an unparalleled work ethic. We are all very proud of her and her accomplishments and cannot wait to see what the future holds for her.

Louisa May Alcott’s American classic shares the adventures of the four March sisters. A Civil War story filled with adventure and imagination, heartbreak and hope. The struggle of these “Little Women” to find their own voices mirrors the growing pains of a young America. With joyful melodies, memorable characters, and a big-hearted message, Little Women reminds us that “sometimes when you dream, your dreams come true.”

SUPERINTENDENT
Dr. David Larson
Superintendent encourages families to register for free summer school
Although it is cold outside, we are busy finalizing plans for our robust, free summer school program.
Our free summer courses are designed to meet a variety of student needs:
- Students may take courses for get ahead credit.
- Students may recover credit from the regular school year.
- Non-credit courses help incoming freshmen be better prepared for the transition to high school.
- Sophomores and juniors who take summer classes are better prepared for the challenging courses in their fall schedule.
I encourage you to talk with your student about summer school, check out the course offerings at sr.glenbard.org and register your student for our free summer program at sr.glenbard.org
Important benefits of summer school
There are many benefits to students who continue their learning during the summer.
- It is important that we help students avoid “summer slide.” Studies show that, on average, students will drop one to two months in grade equivalency in reading and math skills during the summer. We encourage all students to stay engaged with learning by enrolling in our free summer school program.
- Summer school empowers students to develop skills that will allow them to start the new school year on a stronger footing, and it cultivates a work ethic that will serve students well in the future.
- In addition to helping students stay on track academically, summer school provides structure for young people and helps them build confidence in their skills and abilities.
Summer school schedule
Summer school semester 1 credit courses will run from June 6 through 28, and semester 2 will run from July 5 through 27. Credit courses will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays.

SCHOOL VIOLENCE AND BULLYING HOTLINE
At Glenbard West, we offer a violence and bullying hotline which allows students to provide anonymous information to school officials regarding potential school threats or bullying incidents. The number is (630) 942-7406.
Additionally, students can text a CRISIS Test Line: Text HOME to 74141 which sends information to a Crisis Counselor, a real-life human being trained to help individuals return to a healthy/stable level of functioning.
The State of Illinois is launching a school safety program called Safe2Help Illinois in an effort to raise awareness of the 21st-century threats facing schoolchildren in Illinois. Safe2Help Illinois will offer students a safe, confidential way in which to share information that might help prevent suicides, bullying, school violence or other threats to school safety. This program is intended to get students to “Seek Help Before Harm.” Call 844-472-3345 or Text 72332(SAFE2) to report.
