Note from the Principals
Dear Mustang Families,
What a wonderful start to the school year! Mustang Roundup was well-attended. It was nice to meet so many new people. As parents, your support and involvement set the stage for your child's year by showing how education is priority. As students get back into the routine of school life, we value the partnership that we will create with you.
In an effort to get to know the academic abilities of each child, students will be taking the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP Growth) assessment the week of September 5th-8th. Students' MAP Growth results determine current instructional levels and measure academic growth throughout the school year, and from year to year, in the areas of reading and math. Please see the MAP Growth letter to parents in this newsletter for more detailed information.
We also want you to know of other September events including school picture make-up day and the Memorial Student Council Ice Cream Social. Please give notice to the list of important dates at the top of this newsletter. Additionally, the information for ordering school pictures for the make-up date is below.
We remain committed to our goals for students to be engaged in meaningful learning, to develop socially, and to take the opportunity to participate and engage in school activities. Please feel comfortable contacting your child’s teachers, counselor, or an administrator as questions arise throughout the year. Together we aim to have a great 23-24 school year!

Infinite Campus Update 2023
Infinite Campus will be unavailable from approximately 8:00 pm on Friday, September 8th through Sunday, September 10th for a scheduled update.
With this update, South Dakota will be getting Infinite Campus’ New Look in both the Infinite Campus District Edition and in Infinite Campus State Edition. The new user interface is substantially different from the classic look that we have been using for several years. To assist with the transition, Infinite Campus will be offering a “toggle switch” between the New Look and the Classic Look for one year.
Why is Infinite Campus making this change? Infinite Campus wants users to have a positive experience when using their product. The New Look allows users to customize their preferences by marking certain tools as favorites and have these tools populate a separate menu. This allows for easy access to those tools which you find most important and use on a day-to-day basis and will hopefully make your job easier. The New Look of Infinite Campus is also designed with a responsive user interface. This means no matter the size of the screen or device, you will still have access to the same functionality and tooling. You can find more information regarding the New Look on Campus Community at: https://kb.infinitecampus.com/help/try-the-new-look-of-campus.
Click the link below for a video on New Look basic navigation.
As always, please clear the cache and cookies in your browser after this update.

Artificial Intelligence Tools in the Classroom
Over the last nine months AI has taken off leaving educators wondering what that means for teaching and learning. These tools are readily accessible to students and can write essays, articles, create presentations, and e-mails. Realizing the ease of use makes it likely that some students will experiment with these tools the Sioux Falls School District has determined that the use of AI (including but not limited to ChatGPT, Bard, Quillbot, or translators) when used without the direction of the teacher will be considered academic dishonesty. Each student is expected to complete assignments without substantive assistance from others, including automated tools. Any willful misrepresentation of the work being evaluated, and the student’s actual knowledge is an act of academic dishonesty, and disciplinary actions will follow the steps outlined in the SFSD Policy JKJK.
Sioux Falls School District Policy JKJK-R
Academic Dishonesty: Using or submitting work that is not your own, also known as cheating, plagiarism, copying, transferring computer files, etc. Academic Dishonesty included the unapproved use of artificial intelligence for credited work. Students will be expected to follow classroom instructions relating to academic integrity.
