Introducing Hillside's New Academic Dean, Kristen Luxton
My name is Kristy Luxton, and I am excited to return to administration as the Academic Dean at Hillside. I am looking forward to getting to know the students and families I will be serving. I have spent the last 6+ years teaching first and third grade at Little River Elementary. I have been an educator for over 19 years. I have taught in Connecticut and Virginia in K, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th grade levels. Additionally, I served as an assistant principal in Loudoun County before taking time off to be home with my children. I earned my bachelor's and master's degrees in Elementary Education at the University of Connecticut. Additionally, I earned an Education Specialist degree from the University of Virginia in Administration and Supervision.
Outside of school, you will likely find me at a football field, basketball court, or at the theater. My twins are now 8th graders, and we keep very busy with sports and activities. Our sweet dogs, Sophie and Poppy, also keep us on our toes with their silly capers.
My goal is to do all I can to support our students and staff to reach their greatest potential.
Mrs. Luxton will begin her role as the Hillside Academic Dean on Tuesday, October 11th.
Annual Vision and Hearing Screening
In Virginia, vision and hearing screenings are required for students in grades K, 3, 7, and 10 (See Code of Virginia, § 22.1-273) unless:
- the student was tested as part of the School Entrance Health Form;
- the parents or guardians of the student object on religious grounds and the students show no obvious evidence of any defect or disease of the ears; or
- or the student has an Individualized Education Program or a Section 504 Plan that documents a defect of hearing or a disease of the ears and the principal determines that such a test would not identify any previously unknown defect of hearing or a disease of the ears.
On Thursday, October 13th, and Friday, October 14th, Hillside will be conducting vision and hearing screenings for all kindergarteners, 3rd graders, and students new to LCPS. Please ensure your child brings and wears any prescription eyewear or contact lenses to school on those dates.
Volunteers are needed each day to help the screening go smoothly and reduce the time students are out of the classroom. Volunteers escort students from class to the screening location and monitor the students waiting to be screened. They do not do the screenings. If you are interested in helping, please sign-up here:

If you have questions about the screening, please contact Mrs. Strange, Hillside Health Clinic Specialist, at Margaret.strange@lcps.org or by phone at 571-252-2170.
Thank you for your consideration!
