Fenton Area Public Schools - World of Wonder
Happy October!
This week wraps up our 7th week of school. Routines have been established, friendships are beginning to form, and learning through play is happening every day! Our World of Wonder teachers are capturing the development of our students through observation, engaging interactions, and anecdotal notes. Student growth and learning is tracked using our research based assessment tool, COR Advantage. COR Advantage was developed by the Highscope Educational Research Foundation. It focuses on 36 specific items through a variety of domains that assess the whole child. Assessment data will be shared with families at our upcoming parent-teacher conferences in mid-November. Looking for more information on COR? Click the link below.
Daylight savings time is quickly approaching on Sunday November 6th. Daylight savings is a good time to revisit sleep routines. Quality sleep is essential in early childhood. Sleep impacts learning. When a child is sleeping, their body is developing new brain cells needed for growth and development.
Tips for Establishing A Bedtime Routine:
- Develope a regular time for going to bed and a regular time for waking up
- Turn off electronics at least 1 hour before bedtime
- Read books or have a calming activity such as stretching or yoga
- Make the sleeping space quiet, with dim lighting
- Have a special way to say goodnight
If your child's bedtime is normally 8 PM, four days before daylight savings time, move bedtime up 15 minutes to 7:45 PM. Then, two days before move it up again to 7:30 PM. The day of daylight savings, bedtime should be at 7:15 PM.
Shifting the time for bed and establishing routines will help make bedtime more successful and smooth.
