March 2021
Updated COVID-19 Protocols
- Parents/guardians are asked to use the daily School Screening Questionnaire to determine whether their child is displaying symptoms of illness which suggest they remain home.
- Students (and families) are encouraged to bring a filled water bottle to school each day. Water bottle filling stations are available to students to fill their bottles.
- Visitors, volunteers, and parents/guardians will not be permitted inside NLESD schools during the COVID-19 public health emergency.
- Outside food from restaurants or chains may not be delivered into schools since non-essential visitors are not permitted in the school during this time.
- All school staff will be required to wear a Level 1 medical mask and face shield at all times within instructional spaces and at any other time a two-metre physical distance cannot be maintained between students/other staff. A Level 1 medical mask is a disposable, non-surgical 3-ply mask.
- All students in Grades 4-12 are expected to wear a mask (not necessarily a Level 1 medical mask) at all times on the school bus and during the school day, including when seated in classrooms.
- Grades 7-12 students who cannot cohort (i.e., maintain a consistent class grouping throughout the school day) must maintain a two-metre physical distance at all times.
- Students in Kindergarten to Grade 3 are expected to wear a mask at all times on the school bus and are encouraged, but not required, to wear a mask during the school day.
- Students and staff are prohibited from bringing items into our school for distribution to classes. Students are encouraged to bring in their own snacks for scheduled class celebrations that may occur throughout the school year.
- All school fundraising activities have been suspended during the COVID-19 public health emergency.
We would like to thank our families for your continued patience and cooperation as we continue to navigate these uncertain times together.
Virtual Family-Teacher Conferences
Virtual Family-Teacher Conferences will take place on Tuesday, March 30th from 12:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Students will be dismissed at 11:05 a.m. on Tuesday, March 30th. There will be no cafeteria service on that day.
Families will be required to schedule family-teacher conferences using the Online School Interviews website. You can access the site from our school website or by typing the following URL: https://www.schoolinterviews.ca
Detailed instructions are attached below to help you schedule your interview times. The School Interviews website will close for bookings at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, March 30th.
Since physical distancing restrictions and other COVID-19 guidelines remain in place the meetings will be virtual using teleconference technology. When you book an appointment, you will be asked to provide a contact telephone number. Your child’s teacher will call using this contact number. During your scheduled appointment time you will receive a call from an out of province (Ontario) telephone number connecting you to your child’s teacher.
Interviews are strictly 10 minutes and spaces are limited. If you require more time with a teacher, please arrange a separate meeting by telephoning the school.
School Development Surveys
School Development Surveys are conducted annually to gather feedback from students, staff, and parents/guardians to inform the school development process. The survey results will be provided to your child’s school and used with other data to identify the school’s strengths and challenges. Your child’s school will then create and implement a plan to build on successes and address areas of challenge.
The survey is anonymous, which means that we cannot connect your survey responses to you. We encourage everyone to participate so that we have the most accurate representation of family perceptions at your school.
Please complete the survey by April 23, 2021 by clicking on the following link: https://www.research.net/r/SDFamily2021EN. If you do not have internet access contact your school.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding the school development surveys, please contact:
- Allan Johnson at 709-729-7831 or allanjohnson@gov.nl.ca or
- Patricia Emberley at 709-729-6850 or patriciaemberley@gov.nl.ca
Thank you for your participation and for being a valued member of your school community.
