Mask Update
The CDC, Academy of Pediatrics, and ISEA are all highly recommending that students wear masks this Fall. We cannot require this and it is not a mandate, however, as a school and for the safety of our students, families, community, and staff; we are also highly recommending masks be worn by students and anyone entering our building. If you want your child(ren) to wear masks, they will need to be provided by you. We have a limited supply left over that we will be happy to give out until they are gone. We will not give students masks unless they ask for them.
Here Comes the Bus App
If your child qualifies for busing they will automatically be signed up according to your address. Bus information will be sent out as soon as we receive it. You can also download the Here Comes the Bus app to keep up to date on bus information, tracking the bus, and more! The instructions are below.
Arrival/Dismissal Procedures
With it being the beginning of the school year, we want to remind you of our arrival and dismissal procedures. Our procedure helps keep your children safe. Please remind your children to cross at the designated crosswalks instead of in the middle of the street.
If you are dropping off your child in a car, please enter on Lindlavista Way. You can drop off along the sidewalk at the side of the school. PLEASE REAMIN IN YOUR VEHICLES. The area in front of Samuelson, along Bel-Aire Road, is reserved for buses and day care vans only. Stay on the right side of the road as you drive along Bel-Aire. For the safety of your children and other drivers, do not make u-turns in front of the school. This will help traffic move as quickly and smoothly as possible.
If you are picking up your child in a car, enter on Lindlavista Way or Crestmoor Place. The children will line up on the sidewalk at the side of the school. When it is your turn, a teacher will place your child (children) in your car. Stay in your car in the car line. If you need to assist with a car seat and get out of your vehicle, please move forward in the line so we can continue putting students in cars. You may then pull forward or around as directed. You must turn right on Bel-Aire Road at dismissal time. The area in front of Samuelson, along Bel-Aire Road is reserved for buses and day care vans only.
Please do not park along Lindlavista Way. One lane must stay open on Lindlavista Way for the car line and emergency vehicles. If you need to park and leave your car, you may park on Bel Aire Road or Crestmoor Place. Be kind to our neighbors and do not block their driveways.
If you meet your child to walk home at dismissal, please wait for them off of school grounds. Staff will get your children to the crosswalks.
Please remember per the DMPS Parent Handbook, bike riders must be in 4th or 5th grade.
Attendance
Our number one priority here at Samuelson is your child's safety. Attendance is a huge part of keeping our students safe. If your child will be tardy or absent, please call (515-242-8441) or email (samuelson@dmschools.org) the office by 8:15 AM to let us know. Teachers do their attendance at this time.
