A few Reminders from Principal Peters
Thank you for supporting Kettering PTA by buying scholastic books this last week. Please continue your support by joining the PTA and becoming a member - in the past Kettering has had a 100% membership. Please do your part to make that true for this year!
In October we will be giving students a baseline assessment in grades 1-5. Your teacher will let you know the 4 dates that he/she will be administering the iREADY assessment. As a reminder, please support the success of your student by ensuring they:
- get a good night's sleep
- have a nutritious breakfast
- know that test taking takes time and they should not "rush through" the test
- rereading test questions and using scratch paper for math helps students to slow down and think through the assessment questions
- have some calming strategies (like purposeful breathing) if they get anxious
Drop off and pick up of students. Parents please be cognizant of neighbors, other cars and students when dropping off or picking up your students. Never double park. When cars double park, drivers behind the double parked cars can get impatient and decide to move around the double parked car which cases unsafe conditions. Always pull over to drop off students and pick students up. It is best to drop off and pick up on the east side of the street so that parents and students do not end up unsafely crossing the street.
COVID - Keeping our students healthy and our school safe
How Can Families Help?
Be proactive about reducing the number of interactions that students and staff have with one another by practicing physical (or social) distancing (staying at least 6 feet apart) to limit the spread of the coronavirus. In addition to physical distancing, another important tool to prevent the spread of coronavirus is to practice good hygiene. Important public health prevention messages include:
Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds especially after being in a public place, blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
Stay home when you are sick. Anyone with symptoms consistent with COVID 19 should remain at home in isolation for a minimum of 10 days.
Limit close contact with people who are sick, and avoid sharing food, drinks, or utensils.
Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipes.
Health screening for COVID 19 prior to entering the facility. Screen your child at home before coming to school, this includes observing for COVID symptoms, monitoring for exposure to COVID 19, and a temperature check help to keep our educational setting safe.
If your child contracts COVID they MUST isolate for 10 days and can not return until they are symptom free.
If your child has been exposed to a student that has contracted the COVID virus you have 3 options for your student:
Option 1, Modified Quarantine: [when both were wearing masks]
The student may continue to attend school as long as the following conditions are met:
The student is asymptomatic
The student is screened for COVID 2 times/week
The student must wear a mask at all times (even outdoors and on buses) for 10 days
Student may not participate in any extracurricular activities
Screening on-site will be held on Mondays and Thursdays for students who are registered in COLOR. (If you would like to participate but are not yet registered, click on this link to register:https://home.color.com/covid/sign-up/start?partner=19647256015408students
Parent/Guardian can choose to test off-site but must be done twice per week during 10 days (which can equal 3 screenings). These links provide information regarding locations for testing: City of Long Beach Testing Sites, or Community Testing Sites
Option 2, Shortened Quarantine: [when either was unmasked]
Students will remain at home and complete asynchronous work assigned through Canvas until after Day 7 if tested on or after Day 5 from the date of last exposure and tests negative.
Students on shortened quarantine MUST refrain from all extracurricular activities, including sports. Extracurricular activities may resume after day 10.
Option 3, Regular Quarantine: Students will remain at home and complete asynchronous work assigned through Canvas until after Day 10 from the date of last exposure without testing
