Pride,
Happy Sunday! I hope each of you had a wonderful weekend and you're not too tired from the start of daylight savings time.
Last week, we crossed into the 4th quarter of school, which caused me to take a double take. Speaking of, report cards will be going home on Wednesday. March 13th of2020 is a date that I won't soon forget. I spent part of today looking at some of Riverwalk's previous newsletters from that week (3/13/20) and some of the newsletters from a year later (3/13/21).
Going back to review these articles and emails was a bit nostalgic. It was interesting to see our thoughts and feelings from that time period. What's also been fun has been seeing a sense of normalcy back within the school setting. Two weeks ago we had a school dance (first one in two years) and we're making plans for our BPA team to attend their national competition in May, and this year it's going to be in-person.
It's exciting to think about how far we've come and about what's ahead of us. The next two months are going to be exciting as we start winding down the school year. We're excited about resuming the things that we had to press "pause" on, such as end of the year celebrations and even field day. We're also excited that our senior class will get a proper "closure" of their secondary school careers.
Pride, let's have a great week!
In Strength and Blessings,
~Dr. Compton

This week's photo is our Business Professionals of America (BPA) students who are preparing for their state competition. The team is hoping to punch their ticket to the National Leadership Conference and competition, which will be held May 4-8 in Dallas, Texas.
Wear Green On Thursday
Thursday is Saint Patrick's Day, so consider wearing your Power O' The Pride shirt, or another green shirt.
For those who ordered a new shirt though us two weeks ago, they will be sent home by Tuesday (15th).
COVID-Related
On 2/22/22, DHEC updated its guidance for schools. A summary of the guidance can be found below.
- The guidance applies to individual schools, not entire school districts and childcare centers.
Schools may suspend quarantine once they have had two consecutive weeks with less than 10 percent of all students and staff having COVID-19.
- When quarantine has stopped, contact tracing and testing and masking of close contacts without symptoms is no longer required
The first two-week period ends Feb. 28, 2022
- Based on week-one data (week of Feb. 21) and if the trend of low cases continues, DHEC anticipates that most schools will have the option to suspend quarantine on March 1, 2022.
Schools will continue to report the number of cases to DHEC on a weekly basis.
- If a school that has suspended quarantine and has two consecutive weeks with 10 percent or more of all students and staff having COVID-19, Quarantine will need to be reinstated.
- Isolation requirements for those who have COVID-19 will remain unchanged.
As you can see from our data since January 2022, Riverwalk Academy has been well below the 10% threshold for over a month. Therefore, we are able to suspend our quarantining programing beginning on Tuesday. We will continue to update our COVID related data on a daily basis and if there is ever an uptick or spike in our numbers, we will adjust our processes accordingly. If you have any questions about this, please reach out to Nurse Donna.
School Lunches
Riverwalk Academy is a "bring your own lunch" school where students are encouraged to bring their own lunches. We do offer a fee-based lunch program that is not income-contingent. Our fee-based lunch program is provided by Golden Corral. For more information about this option, please click here.
Pride, if you haven't done so, please take a moment to check out our new and improved website. From the main page, you have immediate access to the latest news, and up to date calendar.

Greetings.
This past week I was reminded of the support, love and growth of all our staff and students. This time of year is always hardest on the students and adults alike with all of us looking forward to spring break and the end of the school year. It is also full of anxiety and worry about the end of the year testing. With all the stress though, we also get to celebrate the growth and learning the students have done over this year. Please remember that all we want out of our students is for them to do their best. If your student starts to worry about testing and/or their grades, please remind them to stay on the Energy Bus, stay positive and it will all work out. A growth mindset is just that, for growing and learning, a fixed mindset doesn’t grow and restricts. Our students benefit most from understanding that even adults are always learning.
Our students are also learning that friendships are fluid and full of drama. We will talk about friendships more over the last couple months. Friendships are hard for children. They are still learning about basic emotions, complex emotions, big and little emotions, all while navigating with other people having all the same learning experiences. It can be painful and joyful. Please remind your child that if they are having a hard time, they are not alone.
Have a great week!
Hugs,
Mrs. Carr

Happy Sunday Lions!
We have made it. We are finally entering into the 4th quarter. What a school year…filled with so many adventures and activities. I can’t wait to finish out this year strong and move into the Summer! I hope that you all make this last quarter the best one yet inside and outside of the classroom. I believe in all of us and know we can give these last months our greatest effort. Please let me know how I can help your student succeed in this final quarter. I’m especially looking forward to all of our final celebrations with our seniors! Stay on the lookout for events to come. Here’s what’s happening this week!
Things to know:
- 9th and 10th graders, I have completed most IGP meetings with students, but will work on finishing those up in the next couple of weeks! I may pull your student during the day to have these meetings.
- 8th graders, last week I sent a sign up to parent emails for IGP meetings that are starting this week. Let me know if you have any questions.
