THINK KINDNESS ASSEMBLY!

Hello Parents!

We are SUPER EXCITED to announce that our school is going to be taking on a massive kindness challenge and it’s launching with an assembly. BIG THANK YOU to the PTO for making this event possible!

Jensen Elementary will be inviting one of the nations Top Youth Speakers, Kelley Perotti, to challenge our kids to a massive 15 Day Kindness challenge. Kelley speaks to over 100,000 students each year, she has documented over 1.5 million acts of kindness, traveled to Africa 14 times and collected over 500,000 pairs of shoes for needy children and families. Kelley is part of Think Kindness organization, a non-profit that inspires measurable acts of kindness in schools across the country.

Our school challenge will launch with a fun and exciting motivational assembly (you're welcome to come!). During the assembly Kelley will be telling her story of traveling around the globe to carry-out seemingly simple acts of Kindness and what her friend Brian discovered while living at an orphanage in rural Kenya.

But rather than just talk . . . we are going to call them to action!

THE CHALLENGE = KINDNESS EXPLOSION

The entire student body will be challenged to carry-out acts of kindness in the halls, classrooms, at home and throughout the community. Each student will receive a daily kindness challenges as well as some unique ways to document their acts. So don’t be shocked if you see a little more kindness around the house.

To help us make an even bigger impact, we want to ask you to engage in conversation with your students about the subject of Kindness. Ask them about what they’ve done, acknowledge what they do, and encourage the simple life skill of Kindness.

Congratulations, Nel!

Nel Htoo, a fifth grader in Mrs. Hammes' class, was inspired to write an essay for the Red Cross Heroes of the Heartland Essay Contest. Her essay was chosen as one of five winners (out of 75+ entries!). She was recognized at a breakfast event last Tuesday morning with over 450 in attendance, including Governor Kim Reynolds. Nell wrote about Mrs. Hammes and how is like a second mother to her and how she inspires her. All of us at Jensen are so proud of her! Congratulations!

Thank you, Mr. Leffler

On Friday evening, the 4th and 5th graders wowed us with their musical talent under the direction of Mr. Leffler. Broadway Beat was a show to remember with fun and energizing songs from many different Broadway shows. The students amazed me with their memorization of lines, dancing, singing, and smiles. We are so lucky to have such an incredible music program available to students from kindergarten through 12th grade here in UCSD. At Jensen, we are excited to welcome Mr. Leffler and Ms. Jones (PE) to the staff full time next year! Currently, they are shared between buildings. We look forward to many more incredible performances in the future under his direction.
