Dear WvES Families:

Please take a moment to complete our MRA (Measurable Results Assessment) this week. Weaverville Elementary is a Leader in Me School. Our PTO supports our school by covering the costs of this school framework, and it's always a good practice to take time and reflect on how our work affects our students, staff, and families. However, this survey is not a "Leader in Me" survey! This survey is about leadership, academics, and the culture of our school. Our staff will take the results and reflect on ways we can improve in these areas, and we'll also celebrate any strengths or successes.

*8 Parents have completed the survey as of May 28th, and our goal is to have 80 parents complete the survey! Please take a moment to give your input.

Thank you for taking the time to complete the MRA:

Dear Weaverville Elementary Families:

We can definitely tell it's the last two weeks of school! We are doing a lot of different things to wrap up our school year. This is always a bitter sweet time for students AND for staff. We're excited for the summer break, but we are said to say goodbye. Let's make our last two weeks together as joyful as we can!

3rd Grade Parents: Would you like to volunteer to help set up for the 4th grade promotion? We'll need some help with decorations. If you're interested, please email me at Mary.nichols@bcsemail.org before Wednesday, May 31st.

Volunteer Breakfast is Monday, June 5th. If you volunteered in any capacity this year, we invite you to spend some time after drop-off enjoying coffee and breakfast pastries in our staff lounge.

On Friday our 3rd and 4th graders will take the Math EOG on Wednesday, May 31st. We will begin testing at 8:00 am, and the test will take at least 2 hours. Students are given an extra 3rd hour if they need it. There are 48 questions on the test. While we know that one assessment does not define a student's full range of capabilities, we also know that the collective results of our end-of-grade assessments is how our school is evaluated in terms of instruction and student learning. Our teachers and students have worked hard all year, and the EOG is how our students show what we have learned in regards to grade level standards. Here are some helpful tips for parents in preparing your child for the EOG on Friday (and again on Wednesday, May 31st):

  • Make sure your child has a healthy breakfast at home or remind them to get breakfast at school.
  • Make sure your child goes to bed early the night before. The test is long, and being alert is important!
  • Get your child up a bit early and plan to arrive on time to school. We don't want our students feeling rushed the morning of EOGs.
  • Do as much as you can to make your child feel comfortable. Try not to say things to make him/her feel more nervous.

  • More than likely, their child's teacher has gone over important test-taking strategies already (or they will this week).
  • Think positive! Remind your child to do their best. There might be questions that are really hard, and that's ok!

Reminders from Previous Weeks

  • Yearbooks are on sale for $5. Cash or Check is accepted, and students can give money to their classroom teacher. We can't make change, so please bring $5 exactly or send in a check.

Thanks for all you do to support your child's success at school each day!

Don't forget that our students, staff, and visitors have access to masks all day long. We have regular 3-ply masks and KN95 masks available. Masks are available in the front office, and we have reminders at hand-sanitizing stations that you can get a mask in the front office.

If a student requests a KN95 mask, we must have parent permission since it is considered a respirator. Parents must complete the Voluntary Respirator Use Form and sign and return. Here is a link to the form. If a student requests a KN95 mask, and we do not already have the form on file, we will email it to parent/guardians for you to sign.

COVID Updated Protocols COVID Updated Protocols

Exclusion Criteria
This document shows the reasons a student might be excluded from school due to illness.
  • If a student tests positive for COVID (at home or at a healthcare provider), they would isolate for 5 days from when their symptoms began. We will recognize the guidelines established by the CDC and NCDHHS regarding the use of a face covering to be worn for days 6-10 upon return to school.

  • Our normal exclusionary symptoms of fever, diarrhea, and vomiting are in effect. If a student has a fever, diarrhea, or vomiting, they must remain at home until symptoms are resolved for 24 hours.

  • Hand hygiene, enhanced cleaning protocols, and improved ventilation are all still priorities and important mitigating strategies.

  • Face coverings remain optional, to be worn by anyone at anytime.

  • Physical distancing such as 3 ft or 6 ft apart is no longer required.

  • Contact tracing is not required.

  • Following the guidelines established by the CDC and NCDHHS, MAHEC will not be providing rapid antigen testing in our schools. Staff and families may order at home tests for free via this link: https://www.covid.gov/tests.

  • MAHEC will send home further guidance regarding when students need to stay home due to an illness.

  • For students where an absence is Covid related please indicate this in your parent or health provider's note.

  • Students/teachers will follow the same guidelines for makeup work as they would for any other illness or injury.
