Largo Principal's Parent Press

The Largo Principal's Parent Press is a bi-weekly communication newsletter that will be used to keep parents in the know about events, happenings, and updates at Largo High School straight from Principal Lewis' desk.

Grade-level administrators should be the first line of contact for any concerns that deal with your student(s). If you cannot contact your grade-level administrator after 48 hours, the principal would be the second point of contact.

Thank you to Dean Cabrera, Ms. Arazoza, and Mrs. Gonzalez, for leading our efforts to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. Announcements are being shared daily to grow our knowledge of this celebration. Please encourage students and colleagues to listen so that we all grow through this process. Also, on Wednesday, we are asking everyone to wear a combination of the colors, blue, white, red, and green and we would like to capture a picture of our family to post to be a social media to show how we are celebrating Hispanic heritage month. Grand celebrations are forthcoming to include salsa dancing lessons, a field trip for Immersion and World Languages students, and a spirit week. Let's show exceptional support of these initiatives.

Please note that the meeting will begin at 6:00 p.m. and not 5:30 p.m., as advertised in the flyer. The meeting will be held virtually on Zoom.

The first quarter progress report grading window will open Thursday, Sept. 28 and close Monday, Oct. 2 at 11:59 p.m. Please check your student's grades via SchoolMax on October 2 to view your child's progress. If your student a grade of D or E, teachers must make parent contact with you to work on an intervention plan.

Largo will host parent-teacher conferences virtually on Monday, October 9. We will share the links for all of our teachers via the Largo High School website for you to access the teachers you wish to speak with.

First PTSO meeting of the year was held on Wednesday, September 20 at 6:30 PM. Approximately 20 parents attended the first meeting, which was an improvement parent attendance. Information from the meeting included an introduction by the new PTSO President, Ava Coffen, an overview of the schools progress so far from Principal Lewis, and a peek into the future. We are looking forward to increased volume of attendance from our parents and hope that you are able to join us for the next PTSO meeting in person in October.

We need your help! Did you know that Largo High School has an 87% attendance rate? While its not bad, it could be better. We are asking parents to aim to drop students off between 7:25 and 7:35 a.m., which will allow students ample time to get to class on time. If parents or loved ones drop students off at 7:45 a.m. we have already set the expectation that tardiness is acceptable. Parents and guardians, please do your part to make sure that we set our students up for success.

Safety representatives from PGCPS came earlier this month and did a walk-through with our School Resource Officer, Officer Whiting, Security Assistant , and Principal Lewis to evaluate the building for where our new weapons detection equipment will be placed. Largo High School will be in phase 2 of installation for schools for weapons detection equipment. Largo will receive five units. Please see the image below for what the equipment will look like. When installed, weapons detection equipment will be utilized for entry into the building as well as any athletic events that we have. As we get closer to installation, we will make sure that the Largo family is given information to support this new phase in our plans to increase school safety. Screening is expected to add 10-15 minutes to entry. Please begin to plan accordingly for the implementation of this process. We will keep you posted on the delivery of this equipment.

Please be sure to check school max weekly to check your students grades. Where are you? See any abnormalities, please reach out to your child's teacher, professional school, counselor, or school administrator to collaborate on areas where we can support you and your child to reach their academic potential. Grades should be updated on a weekly basis.
