In the Classroom
All of the classrooms finished up their Box Study right before Thanksgiving Break. We held our culminating event for the Box Study in the gym, where each classroom showcased their box creations and students enjoyed exploring and interacting with all of the creations. Next, each classroom will be diving into their own study based on the interests of their students.
Ms. Chandler, Ms. Griffith and Ms. Edwards' classrooms will be studying bread. Bread is everywhere! Nearly every culture in the world eats some type of bread. A study of bread provides children with an opportunity to learn how bread is made, the kinds of bread we eat, who works with bread, and how and when we eat bread. When children work together to develop their own new bread recipe, they use a variety of skills to predict, experiment, plan, write, draw, examine and negotiate with others.
Mrs. Floming's classroom will be studying exercise! A study of exercise not only offers opportunities for children to explore a topic that interests them, but also enables them to gather information, become more aware of the world around them, and solve problems. Children will explore many types of exercise, observe people while they are exercising, and learn about the mechanics of movement and how to use special equipment to stay safe when exercising. They will also learn about nutrition and jobs related to exercise, and the connection between exercise and healthy bones and muscles.
Ms. Lawrence's classroom will be studying music making. In the preschool years, children are often very interested in performing musically, understanding how music is made, and learning new ways to generate sounds. This study offers many opportunities for children to investigate music making firsthand while they explore social studies and science concepts, experiment with and create instruments, interview musicians, and identify their feelings and preferences associated with different music experiences.
