Bloomington Elementary School
August 7, 2023, Vol II, Issue 01
Welcome Parents and Families
Greetings parents, grandparents, and all families!!!
Opening Day is here!!! The hallways are decorated, the floors are polished, and the teachers are well rested. We are all super excited to see everyone tomorrow morning. If you are walking into the building with your student (s) please park in the side parking lot. This helps keep the street in front of the school open, and helps maintain a safe environment for everyone.
If you still need to register please do so online this evening. We will have computer stations in the morning if you want to register yourself at school. Remember that all students must be registered prior to entering the school or being assigned to a class.
Arrival Guidelines
Morning Drop Off 7:00am-7:50 am
Morning drop off takes place in three different ways.
A) Walkers arrive and enter in the front of the school. You'll notice that we were blessed with the installation of a new crosswalk this summer 😀🥰 If any parents are walking in with their students they will be permitted to accompany their students to classroom for the first few days of school. Beginning Monday, August 21, 2023, parents will have to remain in the front foyer area of the school.
B) Bus students are dropped off near the Bloomington Elementary Cafeteria, and proceed directly to breakfast. A member of the school staff is always present at the bus stop to welcome students.
C) Car riders are dropped off in the front of the school and walk down the main hallway to breakfast. School personnel are always present in the car drop off area for reasons of security and to help students with any bags or heavy loads.
Dismissal Notes
Afternoon Pick Up 3:32 pm
Students are dismissed in four different ways:
A) Students who live in the immediate vicinity of the school are allowed to walk home in the afternoon.
B) Bus students are dismissed from the classroom when their bus arrives. School staff are on hand to supervise the bus loading and to keep students safe.
C) Car riders are dismissed from the front of the school. Parents of car riders are issued a car card to display in the front window of their car. The car line begins in the front of the school, and wraps around 1st Street. Regardless of how long the line may look, this process moves very quickly; it normally takes 8-10 minutes to dismiss all car riders.
D) Any parents who wish to park and pick up their student (s) must park on the side parking lot of the school. The parking spots in the front of the school and along the street must be kept open to facilitate a smooth dismissal process.
If you have any questions or need clarification, please call the office or email Mr. Frisch at: carl.frisch@bisd-tx.org
School Lunch
The school menu for breakfast and lunch is posted on the BISD website. While the cafeteria staff carefully plans every menu, sometimes delivery issues may cause a slight change in menu items.
Parents are permitted to eat lunch with their students. You will need your driver's license to check in and receive clearance. After signing in at the front office, parents may proceed to the cafeteria where a designated table has been set up for families to eat together. Student lunch times are 30 minutes long and class schedules are:
10:30--Second Grade
11:05--Fourth Grade
11:40--Third Grade
12:15--Fifth Grade
For security reasons, and because the morning routines are very fast paced, parents are not permitted to eat breakfast in the cafeteria.
Academic Excellence
A second powerful way to help promote a positive, uninterrupted learning environment is to channel all communications with the teacher through email or any digital apps that the teacher may use. Some examples of this would be the Remind app or Class Dojo. When your child's homeroom teacher sends you an invitation, please confirm your invitation promptly and keep yourself up to date with everything that is happening in the classroom.
PE Class
Students will participate in physical education (PE) class 2-3 times per week. To actively participate in PE class, students must have the proper shoes. This is for their own personal safety, and to protect the gym floor. If students are wearing dress shoes, boots or sandals, please send a pair of gym shoes in their backpacks. Teacher can easily provide a quick minute for students to change footwear prior to the beginning of PE class. Students without the proper footwear will have to sit out from class. After 5 occasions of not having the proper footwear for PE class, a student will lose one letter grade on their final report card.
Also, if students have a doctor's note stating any restrictions to their activity or movement, please send this note to the teacher. The school will ensure that the PE coach has the proper documentation to assist your child in the process of recovery. Medical notes that limit a student's participation in PE do not have any impact on a student's final grade. Additionally, the school will ensure that classroom teachers have these notes and that the limitations are applied to recess as well.
Please contact your child's homeroom teacher or call the front office with any questions.
Birthdays
The school enjoys celebrating all student birthdays throughout the year. Names are programed to display on the electronic marquee in front of the school throughout the month. Additionally, the front office presents each student with a certificate and a small gift for their birthday.
Parents are allowed to bring treats to the class for a student's birthday. You can drop these items off at the front office anytime of day. The office will deliver items to the classroom during break times so that learning schedules are uninterrupted. Teachers will ensure that treats and drinks are distributed to all students at the end of the day. This is typically around 2:30 or 2:45 pm.
Book Fair
We have our first book fair of the year scheduled for the week of September 11, 2023. Stay tuned for a schedule of activities and events.
We are excited to partner with our high school internship students who will be leading the book fair events and gaining valuable experience in their certification programs.
