Eccles Weekly News
September 22, 2022
Dear Families,
My favorite part of being principal is getting into classrooms to work with kids and teachers in the classroom. These past few weeks I’ve visited classrooms for the purpose of introducing myself to your kids and to observe your children as students in action. It has been so much fun!
Our teachers are working hard to create warm and welcoming classroom environments where students feel safe and supported. This past week I’ve observed students apply for classroom jobs to help their classroom community, work in partnerships to read challenging text, study a topic that they were interested in, co-create classroom agreements, and work together to accomplish their goals. These are just a handful of snapshots of how students are engaging in community building at the beginning of the year.
We know you are excited to partner with us and hear from your child’s teacher about how he or she is doing so far this school year. Conferences will occur the week of October 17-21. The school-home connection is so important. We really look forward to meeting with you during conferences.. Conference sign-ups will go live next week when we share the Eccles Weekly News.
Sincerely,
Kelly

Health Reminders
As school begins and we are starting to enter the cold and flu season, please remember to review our district and school health 'stay home guidelines'. If you have any questions about whether a student should stay home, please don't hesitate to contact the office and we can put you in touch with our Health Assistant or District Nurse. We appreciate your help in keeping not only your student, but all other students & families healthy this school year.
***Please remember to send in any medication for your students, which need to be signed in with our Health Assistant (prescription, non-prescription, inhalers, etc).

Great news! We have open spots available in our new After-school Child Care Program. We will now fill those spots on a first-come first-served basis. To register, please fill out this Child Care Interest Form, and program director Molly Martinez will contact you with next steps.

Meet Ms. Sargent!
Ms. Sargent is one of our 5th grade teachers this year. Ms. Sargent has been working in education for the past 7 years and this is her second year in the Canby School District. She has a mini Australian Shepherd named Baxter and often finds herself saying, “Baxter stop,” when he steals her keys, remotes, or phone. Ms. Sargent’s hero is her dad. Her family consists of her longtime boyfriend Matt, her older brother, her mom and her step-dad. Ms. Sargent’s mottos are, “Work together to accomplish more” and “Don’t take life too seriously.” Say, “Hi!” the next time you see Ms. Sargent!
Meet Ms. Hudson!
Ms. Hudson is one of our Kindergarten teachers this year. Ms. Hudson is excited for this year! This is her second year working in the Canby School District and her 6th year working with students. In her family she has her mom and her older sister, Chloe. Miss Hudson’s hero is her mother. Mo Willems and Kevin Henkes are a couple of her favorite authors. Ms. Hudson’s motto is, “If you see someone without a smile, give them one of yours!” Say, “Hi!” the next time you see Miss Hudson.

Volunteers
Looking to volunteer in your student’s classroom or for upcoming events? Here’s what you need to know.
- This must be pre-arranged with the teacher and/or specialist that you are assisting.
- All new* volunteers must be registered and pass a background check in order to volunteer for any classroom, field trip, or activity on-site.
- All volunteers must sign in and out upon entry and exit of the school building.
*If you did not complete this process last year or are a new incoming family, an application must be submitted through the Canby School District.
Communicating with Remind
We are excited to share that the Canby School District is using Remind district-wide! If you're not already familiar with Remind, it's a classroom communication tool that makes it easy to stay involved with your child's learning. Remind is free to use, and you'll be able to get and send messages in multiple languages on any device—even a simple text message from your phone!
When your student’s teacher sets up Remind, you’ll receive an email or text message with steps to help set up your account.. All you need to do is follow the steps in the message to finish setting up your account and begin communicating with your student’s teacher.
We're excited to make connecting with our families more engaging!
