SPELLING BEE
Dear Albright Middle School Parents/Guardians,
This year, we will use the Scripps National Spelling Bee’s online testing platform to hold our Albright Middle School Spelling Bee via an online spelling test.
The first step to spelling bee participation for your child is registering for the online testing platform by visiting https://online-test.spellingbee.com
I encourage you to watch this video tutorial that will walk you through the registration process: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ThKRsffiFc
Once you have registered, I will be able to assign the appropriate test to your child. Your child must complete the test before the given deadline. Tests can be taken on any device with a web browser, including desktop computers, laptops, tablets and smart phones. Chrome, Firefox and Microsoft Edge are our preferred browsers. We do not support Safari for desktop or Internet Explorer.
This year, our school-level competition will be administered virtually. Our school champion will then move on to represent Albright Middle School in the next level of the DuPage County regional spelling bee program, which also may include online tests in lieu of in-person spelling bee events.
Remember, the first step to spelling bee participation is to register at online-test.spellingbee.com. Please register your child at your earliest convenience as I will begin assigning tests to students soon. If you have already registered in the online testing platform for another child, you can log in to your account and add an additional child to that same parent account. There is no need to register a different email address for each child in your household.
Please reach out to me if you have any questions about our school spelling bee program. I look forward to having your child compete to represent our school!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Angie Ross
Tardy Students/Absence
- If you drop your student off at Albright in the mornings, please drop them off as close to 7:35 as possible in the back of the building. Once your student enters the front at door 1 they are considered tardy if they are not in class by 7:45am. In order for your child to have enough time to eat and travel to their classroom, it is imperative that they arrive at school sooner rather than later!
- Call in your child's absence on the absence line. If your child has an illness, please state the symptoms and if they have a fever. Please note that vacations, just staying home, and over sleeping are considered Unexcused.
SOCIAL WORK UPDATES
Erin’s Law, Illinois- Senate Bill 2843 went into effect on 2/14/2011. This law requires schools to implement an age-appropriate sexual assault and abuse awareness and prevention curriculum for grades pre-K through 12.
Victor Pacini, a survivor of sexual abuse an Erin's Law speaker, will be assisting our schools in implementing this mandate. Mr. Pacini’s program is developmentally appropriate, interactive, and aligned with learning standards. The focus of his presentation is to teach children basic skills to keep them safe from dangerous or abusive situations. The concepts that will be discussed are:
• Distinguishing safe from unsafe touches
• Safety rules at home and school
• Saying “NO”
• Secrets
• It’s not the child’s fault if someone touches him or her
• Telling a trusted adult
Mr. Pacini will be presenting through an online program. The date your child will view the presentation is as follows: Albright Middle School, November 8-9, 2021 during regular PE class periods.
