If the seniors could arrive at their previous elementary between 3-3:15, our schools typically have a clap out for them through our hallways. Then from 3:30-4:15, they may mingle with our school staff and have refreshments.

Johnston’s Eshaan S. Chandani is one of eight semifinalists from Iowa in the 2023 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program! This is one of the nation's highest honors for high school students. Of 3.7 million seniors nationwide, only 628 were named semifinalists.

JHS senior Connor Poland has been accepted into the prestigious West Point.
He was one of about 1,000 accepted among 12,000 applicants and was recognized in a signing ceremony today at JHS. We're so proud of you, Connor!

It was a successful three-day run of

at JHS came to a close, students recognized director Jeremy Fitzpatrick for his 20th production by presenting him with 20 yellow roses! Bravo to all involved with putting on Iowa’s only high school performance of Frozen this year!

JHS Hyperstream Club members Zakry Sakris, Noah Newhall, Logan Gordon, Cameron Dehning and Nikolay Silken took 1st placeamong 10 teams from across the state Saturday at Iowa State University’s IT-Olympics Cyber Defense Competition! Their network was deemed the most secure.

Each year, the Iowa Department of Education, in conjunction with Iowa College Aid and Iowa Workforce Development, evaluates programs at Iowa community colleges for eligibility for the Future Ready Iowa Last-Dollar Scholarship.

The 2023-24 eligible programs have been finalized and over 600 programs at 15 community colleges are considered high-demand. To qualify for the scholarship, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and enroll in an eligible program of study.

Awards for Last-Dollar Scholarship in the 2023-24 academic year will be authorized after appropriations for the upcoming academic year have been enacted. Programs are evaluated each year based on shortages identified by Iowa Workforce Development, and eligible college programs must be two years in length or less. The directory of eligible programs can be found at the Future Ready Iowa's website.

JHS yearbook and newspaper students Riley Babel, Ferren Dickey, Bria Fisher, Theron Luett and Dory Holms this week attended the JEA/NSPA Spring National High School Journalism Convention in San Fransisco -- and even had a chance to visit Alcatraz!

About 187 Johnston students attended #BuildMyFuture, a hands-on learning event to explore careers in skilled trades such as welding, plumbing, manufacturing, construction, automotive, restaurant & hospitality, health care, law enforcement, HVAC, masonry and electric work.

The After Prom committee is partnering with two companies for tuxedo rentals this year --- Skeffington's Formal Wear and Men's Wearhouse. Both companies are giving a portion of the rental proceeds back to the JHS After Prom. You must remember to mention that you are with Johnston High School in order for the kickbacks to happen. Please see below for additional information.

For the first time in school history Johnston sweeps singles championships at the Ankeny tournament. Congrats Caden and Campbell on 1st place wins!!!

• The JHS Women's Golf team placed 8th/16 teams in Lamson Invite (Valley) on 4/17/23. Low V Dragons- Cadence Sires (3rd of 98 golfers), Ella Whited, Leann Petrak & Ella Heyer. Next up for the Dragons is a V/JV Triangular vs. Waukee NW and Valley on 4/19/23.

• The Varsity Women's Golf Golf Team fell to Waukee NW/Valley and JV split with them. Low V Dragons- Cadence Sires, Ella Whited, Ella Heyer, and Megan Mixdorf/Leann Petrak. Low JV Dragons- Sidny Pohlman, Cate Taylor, Macy Miller, and Meredith Heggen. Next up for the Dragons, Varsity competes in the Lancer Invite on 4/20/23
