Our students, staff, and family’s safety and well-being are of the utmost importance to us.

At this time, we have had a pocket of 7 (seven) COVID-19 laboratory tested positive cases at Hemlock Middle School and, more specifically, within 6thgrade.

Our district’s COVID-19 task force met this afternoon to review the Saginaw County Health Department requirements and our procedures and protocols. Currently, per the task force, we are doing the following:

• Offering all 6th-grade students a virtual option effective immediately through Friday, September 17th.
• Offering close contacts, an option to either quarantine or attend school while taking a daily serial antigen test (negative), and wearing a mask during the same time frame of the quarantine.

Please be patient with us as we deal with changing protocols as the number of cases has increased.

We encourage you to accept no substitutes for school communication; the best place to find out information on what the school is doing is the school.

Families can drop off students at Hemlock Elementary at 7:25 a.m. using the drive-thru loop. Staff members will be stationed throughout the school directing students to their classrooms. If you are walking your child up, please park in the parking lot rather than the drive-thru.

At K.C. Ling Elementary, we are adjusting the drop-off time to 7:20 a.m. Students being dropped off prior to 7:30 will enter through door 18 and wait by their lockers. After 7:30, students being dropped off will enter through the exterior classroom doors like normal. Please have students exit your vehicle on the passenger side along the sidewalk. If your child needs assistance, please park in the parking lot and walk them across using the crosswalk to keep the flow of traffic moving steadily. Children should not walk from the parking lot to the sidewalk unattended.

Please help students remember to bring water bottles to school. Our water fountains can fill them, but the drinking fountain is turned off.

Donations of store-bought water bottles are greatly appreciated and may be dropped off at the office.

Over the course of the next three weeks, all of our students will be participating in NWEA testing. The results of these tests allow us to provide instruction that is tailored to student achievement data. These test results also help us measure your student’s academic growth throughout the school year as they are administered three times each year (Fall, Winter, Spring). If you have opted for the virtual-only option for the beginning of the school year, the classroom teacher will be contacting you to schedule a testing time for your child to be assessed.

Regular popcorn can be purchased for $0.50 and the special flavor, Movie Theater, can be purchased for $1.00. The proceeds from the sale will be used to purchase supplies for Mrs. Wieland's 4th-grade class.

Per federal regulations please remember that all bus riders are required to wear a mask. Please remember to send your child with their masks for the morning/afternoon commute.
