Health Screenings Begin October 01
State Law requires all public schools to hold annual screenings. Starting October 1st, Jobe will begin screenings for Hearing, Vision, and Acanthosis Nigricans (a visual marker that may indicate possible signs of type 2 diabetes) on all 7th graders and all new to district students. Please ensure your child brings/wears their glasses and contacts daily.
Additionally, females in grade 7 and males in grade 8, will be screened for Scoliosis (a curvature of the spine). Male and Female students are screened separately.
If you have any questions, please reach out to Nurse Blackledge at 682-314-4421 or kristenblackledge@misdmail.org
October is Dyslexia Awareness Month
Dyslexia is a neurological condition caused by a different wiring of the brain. There is no cure for dyslexia and individuals with this condition must learn coping strategies. Research indicates that dyslexia has no relationship to intelligence. Individuals with dyslexia are neither more nor less intelligent than the general population. Some say the way individuals with dyslexia think can actually be an asset in achieving success.
Check out the link below for guidance on helping your middle school student by reading aloud to them. Reading aloud builds vocabulary and teaches them that reading can be fun!
