Principal Update
11/17/23

January 25, 2024
Dear LP Families,
Happy Thursday! A reminder that students do not have school tomorrow, January 26th as it is our School Improvement Day. Our Student Support Coach, Mr. Spadoni wanted to share an important message to families as we have seen an uptick in the number of students who are having difficulty with peers outside of school. Please be sure to read his message below:
There is a rising concern over the use of social media, and phone usage outside of school that negatively impacts students' interactions in school. Students often interact outside of school over text, social media, video games or phone calls, and many of these interactions are positive. However, some of these interactions become negative and it can lead to bullying. We want all students to have positive interactions here at school and hope they carry over to home.
Our school policy is that during school hours, cellphones must be stored away in their lockers and not to be used. When a student is home, they are beyond our realm of influence. However, when a matter that happens outside of school impacts the students’ school day, that is when school needs to step in to support. We are asking for families’ support at home to be aware of their children’s electronic usage. We provide lessons throughout the year about demonstrating good digital citizenship and we encourage families to have conversations with students about appropriate use of phones and devices. Feel free to check out Common Sense Media for helpful information: https://www.commonsensemedia.org/articles
We thank you for your continued support.
Mr. Spadoni
