Hyde-Addison Elementary Schools

Please mark your calendars for Parent Teacher Conferences which are March 5. Your classroom teacher will communicate the details you need to schedule a time in the coming weeks. There is no live instruction for virtual students on conference days and there will be no In-Person Learning.

As a part of Wonderful Wednesdays, The Student Support Team are offering “Tranquil Transitions”, a social skills group to support students who have experienced life changes, such as dealing with parental separation, loss of a love one, and/or anxiety regarding “returning to the world”. Tranquil Transitions is optional and will occur on Wednesdays from 9:30-10:00 during Term 3. There will be one group for students in grades K-2 and another for students in grades 3-5. Please encourage any students who you would benefit to join!

The Panorama Student Survey for grades 3 and up will open online on Monday, February 22. Parents/guardians have the right to opt children out of the survey. If you are 18 or older, you can opt yourself out of the survey. Details and instructions are in our Notification and Opt-Out Letter. To review survey questions, get more information on the Panorama Surveys, or download the opt-out letter in other languages, visit https://dcps.dc.gov/surveys. The opt-out Form will remain open through March 5.

We invite families to join us in spreading kindness with the Hyde-Addison community and in your neighborhoods. To participate, children decorate rocks with uplifting symbols and words (paint pens, paint, or sharpies work the best on the rocks), and then leave the rocks for others to find. It brightens their day! You can also achieve the same outcome by drawing on paper or making cards- so don't let a lack of rocks or paint deter you from participating. Email your photos to hyde.addison@k12.dc.gov to be featured!

There are three interactive virtual classrooms on the Hyde-Addison Resource Hub Canvas page that students can independently explore to learn about Black history. We encourage students to share the many different ways that they celebrate Black culture, people, and history by uploading photos or other files to this Padlet.

A Message From Jelleff:

Dear Hyde-Addison parents,

As students return, we would like to know how we can serve the surrounding schools and community. New programs and enrollments begin March 1st by completing this survey you can share with us the programs you would like to see at Jelleff. We are particularly looking to find out about interest in Afterschool programming with limited numbers and no transportation. We will not be able to resume transportation this school year. Through the survey you can also sign up to receive information on enrollment dates and information about future Jelleff programs. Thank you for participating in this survey.

Camp Croods at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History: Tuesday, February 23, 2021, 6:00 p.m. ET
Join an interactive virtual event based on the family animated film "The Croods: A New Age," sponsored by Universal Pictures Home Entertainment. Visit Camp Croods and take a journey back in time to explore evidence scientists use to understand the lives of early humans.

During this program, take a virtual tour of the Human Origins exhibit, watch clips from the movie, learn about related activities you can do with your family, and get your questions answered by experts!

Did you know that DC Public Libraries are currently open for limited curbside services? You can visit our open libraries to:

• Return materials
• Pick up a hold
• Check out books from our Grab-n-Go selection
• Get a library card

Open locations include: Anacostia, Bellevue, Benning, Capitol View, Chevy Chase, Cleveland Park, Francis A. Gregory, Georgetown, Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, Mt. Pleasant, Northeast, Palisades, Petworth, Shaw, Shepherd Park, Tenley-Friendship, West End and Woodridge.

Hours of operation are: Monday - Friday: 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. , closed daily 2 – 3 p.m. for cleaning

Please make sure students of all ages, PreK3 -5th grade, are reading at home for at least 20 minutes a day- "Readers learn to read by reading!"

DCPS has launched a community engagement process to support the planning of two new schools that will be built in Ward 3 in the coming years – “Foxhall” – on the Old Hardy site (1500 Block of Foxhall Rd NW), as well as the newly vacant GDS lower school facility – “MacArthur Blvd School” (4530 MacArthur Boulevard NW). The goal of these investments is to help address overcrowding in the Wilson HS feeder pattern. A Community Working Group (CWG) has been formed by DCPS to ensure that all impacted communities are engaged in the planning and decision-making process. Each school in the Wilson feeder pattern has one family and one staff representative (the principal). We appreciate Ms. Yousef, a parent of a PreK3 and 1st grade student, for volunteering in this capacity. We're excited to announce that DCPS will be hosting 9 Family Cornerstones Parent University workshops! Meet the creators behind your favorite Family Cornerstones activities and discover more ways to bond. RSVP here for the link!

Youth from any school now have the option to pick up free weekly Market Boxes at 1) Excel Academy, 2) Langdon ES, or 3) McKinley HS. Boxes are distributed every Thursday from 10 AM – 3 PM and contain 7 days’ worth of breakfast, lunch, & supper ingredients. Learn more and sign up by clicking here.
