Au Gres Football Recap/ Preview
Au Gres football coming off another victory last friday beating the Hale Eagles on the road 58-50. It was a slugfest in the game as Au Gres was leading 44-42 at halftime. They pulled the tough win on the road. Proving that Au Gres can win tough hard fought games, they fought the adversity of the refs being pretty bad. Every week I just get a little more sketched about the Au Gres defense every game. I think Hale exposed a little bit of Au Gres weakness on defense, they’re edge contain was pretty weak but I don't know if it was that bad because Hale kept getting away with a bunch holding penalties. Au Gres goes up against the winless Charlton Heston. When I say this I firmly say that Au Gres will win by at least 60 if they try to do that. My prediction for this week is that Au Gres wins 69-0. Au Gres has matched their losses with wins this year as they attempt to keep the perfect season. Au Gres just went through their toughest part of the schedule, now they open up the easiest part of the schedule. It’s Au Gres last home game of the season unless they win out, and go 9-0 they possibly could host a playoff game. As of right now according to snooze2you, they are projected to host a playoff game against Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart. We won’t know if we play Sacred Heart, but it updates weekly shows the match ups. Right now, we’re in region 2 with Marion, Mio, and Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart. Marion currently has the most playoff points in division 2 of 8 man.

Michigan State Spartans continue to impress as they rise to #11 in this week’s A.P. Poll
The #11 Michigan State Spartans, led by second-year coach Mel Tucker, are off to a red-hot 5-0 start. Last week, they scored 42 first half points in an offensive slugout of a game against the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers, which the Spartans won 48-31. This week, they start their BIG 10 schedule against Rutgers. The 3-2 Scarlet Knights are a lot better than their record shows. They are coming off a blowout loss handed to them by the Ohio State Buckeyes, where the Buckeyes dropped 52 points. Rutgers are going to be very hungry for a win this week. They are led by their strong defense, where they have held opponents to only 13.5 PPG before the Ohio State game. Rutgers are also looking to snap a huge losing streak against ranked opponents. The last time they beat an AP top 25 opponent was #23 South Florida on Nov 12, 2009. I believe that despite the strong defense, the Spartans should be able to rely on a heavy dose of Kenneth Walker III runs that will set up the play-action pass by Payton Thorne. I believe that the Spatans will win a tough one. I have them winning 31-23. Keagan Bender, fellow student at Au Gres and Michigan State Spartan fan, says that they are a very good team this year, they have good offensive weapons, and they should win the BIG 10 title AND the CFP Championship. Go Spartans!

Hot Pepper Research Just Won The Nobel Prize
The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine was awarded on monday to a pair who, by working with hot peppers, made huge discoveries about the human nervous system. Scientist David Julius and Adrem Patapoutian were awarded the prize for their work identifying exactly how humans sense heat, cold, and touch- specifically how these sensations initiate signals in the nervous system. Through experiments using capsaicin, Dr. Julius identified a specific sensor in our nerves that signal pain and heat sensations. By poking a cell with a pipette and silencing touch receptor genes, Dr. Patapoutian discovered sensors that allow us to feel the sensation of touch and pressure. You may be asking yourself, what makes this so important? Well, according to the Nobel committee, the scientists identified “critical missing links” in our understanding of how our bodies respond to the environment, and their research has led to a rapid increase in our understanding of our nervous system. Their discoveries could lead to the development of non-opioid painkillers and treatments for a wide range of disease conditions, including chronic pain.

AGS Volleyball
The lady wolverines are on a roll. Last week the junior varsity team fell in three sets to the Rogers City Hurons. But, the varsity team was able to defeat the Hurons in an exciting back and forth match. The match went to four sets but the Wolverines but on a dominating display with several rallies, and great teamwork from all the players. This is the first time in school history that the lady wolverines have been able to defeat the hurons. Allyson Stange helped the team secure the win when she went for a serving run. She was able to go on a run for seven serves which put the lady wolverines in the lead to win the set. On Thursday, the lady wolverines played the Fairview Eagles at AGS. Although the first set was shaky, the lady wolverines were able to defeat the eagles of Fairview in three sets. Hopefully the wolverines are able to continue to win in their upcoming matches where they will face some tough opponents. This week the lady wolverines are on the road to Whittemore-Prescott to play the cardinals. The wolverines have already faced the cardinals early in the season, so hopefully the lady wolverines will be able to evaluate and secure another win. With the end of the season approaching, the team is apprehensive about what the district tournament will bring. The wolverines secured a bye for the first round. The second round of districts will be played on November 3rd, against the winner of Hale and Midland Calvary Baptists. Good luck ladies in your upcoming games and district tournament.

No Vaccine No Job
As businesses and lawmakers are forcing people to get the Vaccine there are more and more people refusing to get the vaccine. They are losing their job and possibly will not be able to collect unemployment. If you refuse to get the vaccine and do not have a religious or disability it is possible that you will not be exempt for unemployment. Northwell Health fired 1,400 unvaccinated workers. United Airlines is in the same boat and are ready to fire 232 unvaccinated workers. This issue is spreading about 46% of organizations plan to issue a vaccine mandate. The White House is requiring vaccines for all federal workers . Earlier this year 28% of employed Americans said they wouldn’t get the vaccine even if it cost them their job. Anne Paxton says that workers can collect benefits after they are laid off, quit a job for a “good cause” or get fired for a reason other than “misconduct”.

Metro Detroit Women Charged with Fraud
In Metro Detroit last Monday , three women were charged with election fraud by an attorney general, Dana Nessel. In connection to some missing applications and ballots submitted during Michigan’s 2020 general election. Dana Nessel and Secretary of State Joceyln Benson were allegedly “stressed” that the ballot charges announced on Monday in conclusion reflected the strict scrutiny (study) applied to the missing voting process applications and that violations of the laws surrounding missing votes are “rare”. There have been more than 250 dismissed cases in Michigan for violations and missing applications to the ballots. Benson said “ These charges are and to be used as a clear lesson to others who think going against violations for applying”. It was said that the three women have also been in connection to the election fraud in Oakland, Macomb, and Wayne counties as well. According to Mukolmel "The other two were caught during the absentee ballot application processing and never issued actual ballots.” The three women will be charged with fraud in the next few weeks or so. -Liv Cowles
New Nairovirus discovered in Japan
A new virus, dubbed the Yezo virus was discovered in Japan recently, with the first case being traced back to 2014. The Yezo virus has had at least seven cases, and is known to be infectious. The Yezo virus is transmitted to humans through tick bites. This is a classic trait of nairoviruses, and so the Yezo virus is classified as one. The disease is characterized by fever and reduced amounts of white blood cells. The disease also limits platelet count, which may hinder the healing process for injuries. It has been observed to already have established itself among wildlife populations. This has been proven by evidence of antibodies for the virus in the animals of its origin as well as the discovery of its RNA inside local ticks. Although there have been cases, none have ended in fatality yet. Research teams are now tracking its spread among its region in an attempt to find its origin.
