There will be no school from Monday, December 25th through Monday, January 8th, 2024. School will resume on Tuesday, January 9, 2023. The Davis/Richmond staff thank our families for the kindnesses shown and given during the holiday season. We are thankful to partner with you in your child’s education. We wish all of our Davis/Richmond families a healthy and happy holiday season

Our offices may have reduced schedules during winter break. If in need of office assistance between December 25 - January 5, please call your child’s school to set up an appointment. We will re-open normal hours on Monday, January 8th. We look forward to welcoming our students and families back on Tuesday, January 9th.

Access the For Families Report from the student’s i-Ready Dashboard

Parents can now access the Individual Student Reports (ISR) from each i-Ready Diagnostic in the i-Ready Portal. Access to the ISR is available on any computer. On the following pages you will find instructions for access based upon the type of computer (Chromebook, iPad, PC - Windows or Mac). A paper copy of the report can be made available upon request by the student’s parent / guardian. Please contact your student’s school if a paper copy is required.

2 types of coughs – Throat caused by postnasal drip and Chest caused by lung inflammation

1. Starts out as Viral but may be related to Allergies or Asthma

2. It may or may not be accompanied by fever

3. Can last up to 6-8 weeks

4. Cough may present as dry, hacky, seal-like barky (Croup) and persistent

Some suggestions that may help…

1. Warm Tea with Honey, Lemon or Ginger

2. Honey by the spoonful

3. Using humidifiers

4. Drinking fluids – stay away from carbonated beverages

5. Saline Nasal sprays

6. Cough drops – something menthol/not sweet, chewing gum

7. Warm showers

8. Gargling with warm salt water or drinking some warm salt water to help dissolve mucus and soothe irritated tissue (Viruses can make airways swell)

9. Avoid smoke-filled rooms, pollens and a lot of dust

• If your child’s cough is persistent to the point they are unavailable for learning and it’s quite disruptive to the rest of the classroom, you will be asked to pick them up.

• You should revisit the doctor if fever appears/reappears and cough worsens. Unfortunately, it is expected that some children will repeat this cycle all winter long due to the many viruses that are out there.

Illinois state law requires that all children entering kindergarten, second grade, and sixth grade will have an oral health examination. A licensed dentist must perform the dental exam and he/she shall sign and date the report form. Dental offices usually have the form, but the dental exam form can be obtained by clicking here or by contacting your child’s school and requesting a dental exam form or by visiting d303.org website under departments, then Health Services. This exam must be completed within 18 months of May 15, 2024.

In an effort to assist you in completing this oral health exam for your child, the Mobile Dentist will be on site at Davis on Feb. 6th and Richmond on Feb 7th -provided we have enough students for the Mobile Dentist to come. Please consider taking this opportunity of in-school care at little to no cost to you.

• The Mobile Dentist accepts Medicaid and private insurance.
• Self-pay by cash or check for $70 is also available for those without insurance coverage.
• Services provided are cleaning, screening, sealants, and flouride.
• Forms will be sent home and must be completed and signed by parent or guardian. Extra forms are available in the health office or you can click below to download a copy.

Every month at Davis we honor students who go above and beyond. These children excel in being good friends and always showing the Davis rules: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Safe. Congratulations to Grayson Guilbeau, Rose Heiting, Fola Amos, Debanhi Hernandez, Milo Chavez & Victoria Medrano Camargo.

The Davis 2nd grade Student Council members and Fuel Up to Play 60 partner every December to host a food drive to support the Northern Illinois Food Bank. On December 19, students welcomed Sucely Garcia, Marketing and Neighbor Outreach Specialist from the NIFB, who recognized them for their efforts and support. Thanks to their efforts, the groups collected 171 food items for donation.

Students learned about how the NIFB supports local food banks and how individuals and students can get involved and volunteer, even at 8 years old. Second-grade teacher, Allison Thomas even shared the story of a student who celebrated their 8th birthday volunteering at the NIFB with their friends.

“We are proud of giving back every year to the Northern Illinois Food Bank and learning that we can be a volunteer at 8!” expressed Thomas.

Thank you to PTO and parents for providing fun winter parties to end the semester. The students had a great time together.

• The health office is in need of donations of pull-up sweatpants for both girls and boys. All sizes are welcome - new or gently used.

• If your child comes home with borrowed clothes, please return them within a week, washed and folded.

The band students did an amazing job at their first performance on Monday, December 18 at East High School. It's so much fun to hear their progress in just four short months. I am so proud of their hard work!
