Vandeventer Celebrates Heart Awareness Month
News from the Nurse
Our campus is beginning to see signs of sickness. With that being said, please do not send your student to school if they have a fever. Doing so, puts your student as well as other students and faculty at risk. A fever, per our district policy is defined as a temperature of 100 degrees or above. In order to return to school, a student must be fever free without the use of fever-reducing medications for 24 hours before they can return. Protect yourself and your loved ones by doing the following:
- Taking a flu shot
- Washing your hands frequently or using hand sanitizer
- Stay home when you are sick
- Covering your cough
Let’s keep flu and other illnesses out of school!!
February is American Heart Month. More than likely, you are not worried about your tween or teen’s heart health, and for obvious reason: the majority of tweens and teens have strong, healthy hearts because they are young! But, many of the habits that are established in the adolescent years can impact children’s heart health throughout their lives. Parents can make a difference in the heart health of their teens by teaching them positive behaviors now that will influence their adult health. Here are some suggestions:
- Protect young athletes with pre-sport heart screenings-The American Heart Association supports a 14 point checklist to gather information regarding heart health in young athletes
- Know your fats—The fats that one eats can affect cholesterol levels which can be elevated in our kids. Replace saturated fats with unsaturated fats such avocado, fish (salmon), oils such as avocado, grapeseed, safflower, and olive.
- Limit salt intake-The salty six can be tricky and add up fast putting pressure on blood vessels causing elevated levels of blood pressure. The salty six include breads/rolls, cold cuts/cured meats, pizza, and soup. Swap out less meat and add more veggies to pizzas, and use fresh protein rather than fried, canned, or processed
- Make every move count! Even just 75 minute of exercise per week meets the American Heart Association recommendation for adults. For kids and teens, 60 minutes per day is ideal, and it can be broken up into chunks throughout the day.
Athletic Event Student Expectations
It's Track & Soccer Season!
We are excited that track and soccer season has arrived! Please help us reiterate the campus and district game expectations to your student(s) as we continue to support our athletes through the remainder of the athletic season.
- Students must be in the district approved dress code at track meets and soccer games.
- Students should remain in the stands to watch the attending event.
- Students (non-participants) and parents are not allowed to enter the field at any time.
- Once students leave the premises, they are not allowed to return.
- Students’ conduct should promote sportsmanship and reflect Vandeventer in a positive and respectful manner. Conversations should be appropriate and profanity is prohibited.
- Students should not have the following items or similar items with them: football, soccer ball, tennis ball, skate board, scooter, etc. Please leave items such as these in the car or at home.
- Students must be picked up no later than 15 minutes after the conclusion of the track meet/soccer game in order to attend future extracurricular events. Students should not wait until the meet or game is over to contact parents for transportation. Administrators will wait with students until they are picked up to ensure student safety, so please ensure that your student has a ride immediately following the event.
- Students not meeting these expectations may be asked to sit with their parents (if parents are present), or to call their parents to pick them up. Students may also not be allowed to return for future extracurricular events.
Thank you so much for your support of our Vandeventer Viking athletes, families and spectators – we’ll see you at the games! GO VIKINGS!

Guardian Gateway
Frisco ISD is making it easier for guardians to find key information about their students through a new portal called the Guardian Gateway. The Guardian Gateway portal was created and designed based on feedback from parents who were looking for an easier and secure way to access information for multiple children within one platform. Soon guardians will be able to view multiple children within one HAC account, access STAAR scores and find regular important updates all in one place. We look forward to sharing the Guardian Gateway portal with you and appreciate your patience during the District Wide rollout. Click here to learn more.
