Hello Dragons!
This week we voted on our favorite book nominated in the California Young Reader Medal. I will announce what our school voted most for and then send off our votes to be counted in the statewide vote. Can’t wait until the end of May when they announce which of the five wonderful nominees won. AR prizes finally went out this week as well. Remember to keep taking AR quizzes, the last day for March points to count is Friday March 31st. Remember, good things happen when you read!

MISS ALISSA'S COUNSELING CORNER!
Is there a link between physical activity and positive mental health?
You bet there is! Activity and movement is not only good for physical well being, it’s good for mental well being. When we engage in physical activity (i.e., walking, running, hiking, riding, swimming, dancing, gardening, etc.) for even just 10 minutes, our brain releases endorphins into our bodies and pumps more oxygen into our brains that make us feel good…great even! And it’s FREE! In fact, one of the first things mental health professionals will look at when assessing depression is how much activity the individual is getting regularly. Sometimes just by adding in more physical activity, a person will begin to feel better about themselves and their current situation. Here is a list of just some of the exciting positive mental health benefits of physical activity:
Boosts self esteem
Provides natural energy
Provides a sense of achievement
Increases focus
Increases motivation
Reduces anger and frustration
Helps balance appetite naturally
Increases healthy sleep
Reduces anxiety
Reduces depression
Improves cognitive function
Reduces risk for many types of health problems
It’s FUN, builds connection and provides for great memories!
Not to mention the Vitamin D! Sounds too good to be true right? Let’s get our families moving everyone! Monday marked the first day of spring and the perfect time to kick off a healthy new exercise or activity goal. Think of the wonderful ways our Dragons can benefit mentally, emotionally and physically from more movement.
Put down those electronics and I’ll see you outside! Have a wonderful week!
Love, Miss Alissa.
I am here for you!

It has been great to see a glimpse of sun through the clouds. The fields are wet so PE will continue to be on the blacktop.
Primary students will be doing boot camp and running activities. Students will be doing a variety of stretching and exercises such as sit ups and toe touches. We will also be doing activities from the computer that will center around St. Patrick's Day and the start of spring. On the blacktop we will be using the parachute and playing running games. We will continue to do warm ups and stretch head to toe.
Third and fourth grade students will be doing boot camp activities and 8 to 10 minutes of jogging / running. They will also be completing St.Patrick’s Day and start of spring activities on the computer. Students will also do relays, warm-ups and stretch head to toe.
