Food For Thought... Monitoring our Goals
School Goals:
-increasing student vocabulary
-growing ALL students (not just the bottom 25th percentile)
-increasing engagement to impact learning
-increasing science and civics background knowledge
How are you doing in tracking your class and how they are meeting/improving towards our school goals? Are you consciously planning for purposeful vocabulary development? Are you striving to engage your students with the content to improve recall, rather than just have them complete a worksheet?
In PLCs we will be talking more about how are you tracking your students' data as well as helping them be aware of their data and strategies to improve their performance.
DPP:
How are working to improve yourself professionally? Returning teachers set their DPP goals a few weeks ago. Are you checking back in with yourself or with a teammate to help meet your DPP goals?
PLP: Have you met with each of your students to help develop their PLP ? (Remember we set a benchmark of having them all sent home by progress report time if not before.)
Education and learning is complicated and has many moving, shifting parts. Having a strong system to help track all of the elements is important. If you get overwhelmed or are not sure you are tracking/monitoring the right things, touch base with a peer.
TFET: The evaluation instrument is meant to give teachers continuous improvement feedback. CSUSA is shifting to making sure that we are not just giving feedback in a one time formal end of year evaluation session. We are shifting to putting all walkthrough feedback for teachers into the TFET tool through Performix. Walkthroughs may only have feedback on one or two areas of the evaluation tool.
All new to CSUSA employees will start having their mid year feedback through Performix this week using the 30 point mid year tool.(They are to be completed before winter break) CSUSA has recommended that principals new to a building complete a mid year on ALL teachers (yes that is big number) - so I will be trying to do that for you! Please remember that scores/ratings are to give you a snapshot in time of your performance and the focus is on continuous improvement.
We can't just check our bank balance on the day we retire, or weigh in a year after setting a weight loss goal; we have to have measures along the way to give feedback and to progress monitor.
Without a plan and data monitoring it is called the "hope approach" and that is a scary way to work in education!
