Important Dismissal and Arrival Information
Parents,
Our number one priority is to keep your child safe. It is our goal for arrival and dismissal to be safe and efficient. In order to accomplish this goal, we need your help! It takes all of us working together to keep our students safe.
We recommend that you drop your child off at school before 7:25 am. Between 7:00 am and 7:25 am the carpool lane and traffic are light.
Carpool operates much like a fast food drive through! Here are some important reminders:
- Drivers DO NOT get out of your car in carpool.
- Please pull all the way forward to the next available cone.
- Your child must be able to buckle and unbuckle themselves. If they can't, you should not use carpool.
- Your child should be ready to exit the car door when it is opened.
- It is illegal to use your cell phone during carpool.
- Do not drive through crosswalks when pedestrians are present. Please wait until crosswalk is clear before proceeding.
Important reminder for walkers:
- Please cross in groups not individually to maximize traffic flow.
- Please use the crosswalks on and off campus.
- There is no parking in the front parking lot during arrival and dismissal. Parking is located in the south parking lot and is very limited.
- Parking on Ventura both directions is illegal. If you choose to park there you do so at your own risk.
- If you choose to park in the south parking lot, please follow the one way sign and arrows on the pavement. There is one way in and one way out. Please do not go the wrong way. This causes congestion and may lead to an accident.
Birthday on marquee
For $25.00 you can have your child's birthday displayed on the south side of the marquee. Due to limited space only 3 birthdays will be displayed per week. Students' names will be posted for one week. Posting will start on Monday of each week and include holidays and summer birthdays.
Payment must be received two weeks prior to posting or your reservation will be released.

SEEKING PARENTS & COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO DEVELOP GOALS TOGETHER
Excellence is best achieved through a shared vision and cooperative effort of students, their families, staff, and the community. We invite you to help support this goal by serving on our School Based Improvement Committee (SBIC) for Centennial Elementary. These representatives work together to analyze various data and develop goals that will positively affect school performance.
Meeting dates will be: Thursday, September 7th, Thursday, February 8, and Thursday, May 16th from 3:15-4:00. These meetings will be on campus.

Nurse News
Welcome to the 23-24 school year! I am Chantal Rufus. I’ve been the school nurse at Centennial since 2020. I’m on campus daily and looking forward to getting to know you and your child. There are a few things that I would like to share with you:
- Change of clothes—Please keep a change of clothes in your child’s backpack in the event of a spill or muddy accident at recess. Trust me, it happens. If they have an accident and don’t have a change of clothes, we’ll call you to bring one to school.
- Illness Prevention—We practice hand hygiene and covering your cough at Centennial. We teach students to wash their hands after using the restroom, clean hands before eating and cough/sneeze into their elbow to prevent the spread of germs and stay healthy.
- Illness—Please keep students at home when they have any symptom of a possible communicable disease:
- Fever of 100° or more for the duration of the fever plus an additional 24 hours after cessation without fever-reducing medication
- Vomiting or diarrhea for 24 hours after cessation
- Generalized rash
- Oozing wounds that cannot be kept dry and covered
- Red, draining eye
- Untreated live lice
- If your child tests positive for COVID-19, please report that to me. They must quarantine at home for a full 5 days.
- Medication— Only medications that cannot be given at home will be given at school. If your child needs to take medication at school, a parent/guardian must bring the medication to the clinic and complete an authorization form. For the safety of all students, please do not send medications to school with your child. Medications are considered to be any pills, liquids, inhalers, sprays, eye drops, ear drops, cough drops or topically applied creams or ointments that are expected to relieve symptoms.
- Screenings—Hearing and vision screenings will be conducted in the fall for all Kindergarten, 1st, 3rd and 5th graders. If your child needs further assessment, you will be contacted.
- Breakfast—It really is the most important meal of the day! Many times, students show up in the clinic with a tummy ache or headache because they haven’t eaten. Please be sure your student gets up early enough to eat before school. Our school cafeteria offers breakfast daily from 7:00—7:30 am.
Please contact me if you have any questions!
