Sponsor a Student: We had a parent ask if they could sponsor a child that didn't have a $1 a lap yet. If you would like to sponsor a student that has not received any pledges yet, please send $30 in an envelope with "Sponsor a Student" on it. You can send cash or write a check to Ireland PTO. I am sure you would make their day!
Please support our school today - here’s how:
- REGISTER your student(s) on funrun.com starting today. It takes 30 seconds!
- SHARE with 5 family/friends using the SHARE tools on funrun.com (Facebook, Text Message or Email) Students will earn rewards just for sharing from funrun.com.
- GIVE a donation if you are able to give.
- DONATIONS students can collect pledges online, or they can bring in cash or a check made out to Ireland PTO. Please let us know who donated the money so we can give a shout-out to that individual on your child's pledge-o-meter!
- PRIZES your child will immediately receive the prizes that they have earned. On their page online, you can view all the prize!
- Every share and donation makes a difference! And, don’t forget…
Students can receive rewards when parents share from funrun.com - All students get to participate in the Event day, regardless of financial participation
- This fundraiser comes with an incredible character development program for students where they’ll be learning about the importance of teamwork, care, courage, grit, and celebration
Thank you for supporting our school - we are grateful for our amazing school community!
Check out the videos below on how to register and how to donate to your child's account! Mrs. Pfister was so kind as to guide us through this process!
This fundraiser will take the place of selling Servus Cash/BR Bucks in the spring. We are still planning on having our Soup and Sandwich fundraiser this fall. Thank you for working with us to make our school stronger. We are grateful for your support!

Car Line - Important Reminders!
1 - There are still several parents that have their kids seated on the driver side of the vehicle and are having to stop, park, and get their kid out. Please make sure your child gets out on the passenger side.
2 - Please no passing in the car line! It is very dangerous!
3 - Your child should start to get ready to get out as soon as they pull onto the school drive. Many students aren't even close to getting ready, THEREFORE, leaving something in the car - like masks, books, etc. and holding up the line.
4 - If your child is having a rough morning, please pull around to the south side and wave at the individual on duty. We will help assist in bringing them into the building.
Accelerated Reading is Up and Running!
Encourage your child to read and take AR quizzes! We will have some awesome opportunities and prizes at the end of the semester for the students to use their points!
Use this link to access AR - Ireland Accelerated Reading
First Award for AR will be this Friday; then every other Friday! We recognize the top 10 of the semester and the top 10 of the two-week time period! Keep reading!
Spell Bowl Try-outs!
Do you have a 4th or 5th-grade student? If so and he/she is interested in trying out for this year’s Spell Bowl team we’d love to have them! They should have received a parent letter providing more information for you and the word list on Friday. If they did not receive one and would like one, you can access it below.
Please note:
Tryouts will begin Tuesday, Sept 1st with a test over words #1-50. Testing will continue on Wednesday, Sept 2nd on words #51-100, and on Thursday, Sept 3rd on words #101-150. Students should report to THE LGI ROOM in the cafeteria on these mornings at 7:30 a.m. Please contact Ashley O’Connor or Sara Olinger with any questions, or if your child cannot attend due to transportation but still wants to try out and we’ll make arrangements.
Thank you!

Fun with Words!
Use the following activities to build your child's phonemic awareness - the ability to hear sounds in words.
- Choose a three-letter word, such as hat. Have your child change the beginning sounds form the alphabet to make new words (cat, mat, rat, sat,) . How many can they think of?
- Pick a long word, and ask them to clap the syllables. For mozzarella, they would clap four times - moz-za-rel-la.
- Ask your child to say a word without the first sound. For example, can you say rat without the r? (Answer: at.)
- Think of a word, and give your child a "sound" clue to figure it out. For example, I am thinking of a word for something you chew but don't swallow. The word has a uh sound in the middle (Answer: gum).
Ireland's Character Education Program
It is important to know that this is not an "everybody wins award." Students who are chosen are noticeably going above and beyond to model these skills. It is not to say other students do not. The intent of this program is to make kids consciously aware that their choices matter, and it isn't always easy to do the right thing. Many times in life doing the right thing is usually the hard thing!

Dates to Remember
Tuesday, August 25th - September 3rd: Students get pledges for the Fun Run or flat donations; individuals can pledge online with student's link or students can bring cash/check to school with flat donation.
Thursday, September 3: Ireland Fun Run! Event will take place during school hours and we will Facebook Live the event for parents.
Monday, September 7: Labor Day No School!
Thursday, September 10: School Picture Day! If you are a Covid online student, you may come 7:30 - 8:15 for your picture.
Important Reminders and Updates
School hours are 7:50 a.m. -2:50 p.m. Students can arrive starting at 7:15 a.m. Students may not be dropped off prior to 7:15 AM. If you bring your child to school after 7:50 AM, you must escort them to the front doors.
No visitors at this time. We are highly encouraging parents who are bringing their child to school to use the car drop-off drive. If you would like to walk your child in, you will have to say good-bye outside the front doors. It will get congested there as that is where the buses drop-off. We will keep students moving as much as we can. Many staff members will be at all drop-off locations to help students to their appropriate classrooms. Please trust us that we have your child's best well-being in mind at all times.
All school supplies are provided by the PTO. Your child only needs a backpack, headphones, and a water bottle. Please write your child's name on all items.
Please see nurse Brandi Stiles for prescription medicine intake. All medicine must be accompanied by a parent and include a physician’s prescription. Students are not allowed to transport medicine to school.
VERY IMPORTANT- If your child's transportation changes, please notify the office with a note ASAP.

Elementary Reopening Plan
GJCS has shared a lot of information regarding the reopening of our schools based on information from the CDC, Indiana Department of Health, Dubois County Health Department, Governor Holcomb, and others. We encourage you to go to our corporation website or social media pages to review that information before the start of school.
We also wanted to share with you some steps being taken specifically at Ireland Elementary School to ensure the health and safety of students and staff during this time. This information applies to the additional considerations being taken during the “Green Stage,” as identified by GJCS, and is certainly not an all-inclusive list. It is being provided to give students an opportunity to learn of some of the changes they will be encountering in order to be better prepared on the first day and for parents to get a better idea of the measures being taken at Ireland Elementary specifically.
See attachment below for more information - this was also sent out as an email a few weeks ago.
