NWEA TESTING THIS WEEK
Johnston Family,
We will be administering the NWEA reading and math test in the coming weeks. Each year, our students have fall, winter, and spring NWEA assessments to help us get an accurate picture of what our children know, monitor growth, and drive instruction. NWEA assessments are not for a grade.
For those who feel comfortable, we are encouraging students to come in for testing. This is scheduled by grade level, and the testing layout in our gym and cafeteria will allow for 6 feet of distancing. Kindergarten and 1st grade will need their headphones for both tests. Those who choose to do remote testing should plan to test at the same day and time as indicated in the schedule below. Please see further instructions specific to each choice following the testing schedule.
Johnston’s NWEA testing schedule is as follows:
Math:
Tuesday, September 1: Kindergarten 8:30-9:30
3rd grade 10:00-11:30
Wednesday, September 2: 1st grade 8:30-9:30
4th grade 10:00-11:30
Thursday, September 3: 2nd grade 8:30-10:00
5th grade 10:30-12:00
On-site testers:
If you choose to have your child come in for the test, be sure to:
-wear a mask
-arrive 10 minutes before testing time
-iPads are charged to 100%
-Please drop them off and pick them up at the cafe door. Parents need to stay in their car.
-Please be on time to pick your child back up at the end of the testing session
-Students should bring an independent reading book to read in case they finish early.
-Students will need scratch paper and pencil for this week’s math test.
-Kindergarten and 1st grade will need their headphones for both tests.
Remote Testers:
If you choose to have your child take the test remotely during their scheduled time, be sure to:
-have a second device to communicate any issues that may arise (Google Classroom, DoJo, Remind, etc.)
-This will be the app they will use to access the test on their iPad
-It will bring them to the “Log In” screen. Teachers will post the “Session Name” and “Session Password” in Google Classroom.
-Students will have to find their name in a drop down and select it. Please be sure they select the correct name.
-Students will then have to wait to be “approved” to begin the test.
-Students will need scratch paper and pencil for the second week’s math test.
-Kindergarten and 1st grade will need their headphones for both tests.
Please fill out the survey attached. Let us know if you have any questions ahead of time or during the test.
