Attendance Policy
Chronic absenteeism and tardiness establishes poor work habits and is disruptive. Students should be present and on time for classes. Promptness is one of the most important employability skills a student can learn in school to prepare him/her for the future and the world of work.
Any student arriving to school late must report to the office and sign in before going to class. We believe that regular school attendance is critical to the learning process and implement the following attendance guidelines and procedures:
Attendance Guidelines:
- Students are required to attend all of their scheduled courses every day that school is in session.
- Students are allowed five (5) absences per course, per trimester. An absence is considered an absence regardless of whether it is excused or unexcused. Notification of the absence must be received by the Principal’s office within 48 hours of the absence to be considered excused.
Communication
Chesaning High School methods of communication include:
- Email. CHS administration and staff commonly use email to communicate with students and parents/guardians. Make sure CHS has up to date guardian contact information for your student.
- Google Classroom. Using Google Classroom, educators can create classes, distribute assignments, grade and send feedback to students. You can sign into a classroom by either entering a class code that is shared by your teacher or accepting an invite that is emailed to you by your teacher. Guardians can join Google Classrooms to receive automatic email summaries for each of their students.
- Google Calendar. Using Google Calendar, Chesaning High School shares upcoming academic and extra-curricular events for each grade. When you join the Freshman/Sophomore google calendar, you will get reminders about upcoming activities, so you always know what’s next.
- Remind. Remind is a communication platform that helps educators reach students and guardians where they are, either via text or email. Chesaning High School has grade level Remind groups that we use to share information that is specific to your student.
How do I join the Freshman/Sophomore Google Calendar?
Be sure to:
- Include your name
- Share your email address
- Specifically request the calendare that you would like access to
Other important practices:
Here are some tips to help you stay organized:
- Use a planner everyday. Encourage your student to use their phone or a planner to record assignments, tests, quizzes, activities and everything else that you need to remember.
- Have a system for organizing your work. Whether you use folders, binders or notebooks, the important thing is to know where your work is when you need it!
- Develop routines. Have a morning routine that gets your day off to a good start and a nighttime routine that includes getting everything ready for the next day.
- Create a study plan each day. At the end of each school day, look at how much homework you have, consider the time you have available, and make a plan.
Remember, now that your student is a freshman, everything counts! All ninth grade courses, grades, and credits will be on the student's transcript, and all freshman grades will be used to calculate their GPA. Make sure your student understands the importance of working hard this year - right from day one.
