A Historic Nomination!
I feel like it is appropriate to wrap up Black History Month and start Women's History Month with a shout out to the newest Supreme Court Justice Nominee, Ketanji Brown Jackson. This past week Justice Brown Jackson was nominated for the Supreme Court Justice vacancy created by Justice Stephen Breyer's retirement. This makes her the first black female ever nominated for the Supreme Court. Judge Brown Jackson's capability began to show very early on in her education. She was Mayor of her middle school and student body president of her high school in Miami. Her parents were both public school educators and leaders. When she told her counselor that she wanted to go to Harvard she was told to "not set her sights so high". She was an editor of the Harvard Law Review and went on to graduate with honors from both Harvard Undergrad and Harvard Law. After graduating from Harvard Law she went on to serve as a Supreme Court Clerk for Justice Breyer, to work as a public defender, to serve as a vice chair of the US Sentencing Commission, the US District Court for the District of Columbia, and then finally on the DC Court of appeals. Justice Brown Jackson will go through the confirmation process which will determine whether she will become the first black woman to serve as justice on the United States Supreme Court. Highlights from the week of 2/21-2/25
This past week was a great week of celebration. We got a chance to celebrate a couple of very important things:
- Student Character and Academic Performance: We got the opportunity to celebrate the hard work of the students from Quarter 2 (I know it was a bit late but it was when it fit into the school schedule. See the pictures below of all the students who made the honor roll for 2nd quarter. Special shout out to Zack Crouse, Nate Hille, and Hannah Hille for achieving the highest honor roll tier, 4.0! Congratulations also to the following students for being chosen as students of the quarter for their respective classes and grade levels: Camdyn Redinger (K-1), Jayden Tikka (2-3), Jayden Stark (4-5), Maddi Meade (Middle School), and Hannah Hille (High School). All of these students were chosen by their teachers for their hard work, outstanding citizenship, and high levels of achievement. Well done students!
- FFA: Huge thank you to Mrs. Draper, the FFA Officers, the families of the officers, and all of the community members who came to enjoy a great breakfast. It was delicious and it was exciting to have the breakfast in the building again after our curbside service last year. Officers include President Zack Crouse, Vice President, Jess Vanhollebeke, Sentinel, Drake Gloyn, Secretary Cooper Jessop, Treasurer, Noe Longatti, and Reporter, Kalea Herold. Also, a special thank you to all of you who donated to the FFA program at the breakfast. If you would like to support FFA financially feel free to contact Mrs Draper at the school and she can make sure you are able to do that in accordance with ASB rules.
