ELECTIVES
FCS
Meatless dishes is our focus this week! Due to the meat shortage I think this is prime time to embrace more beans, lentils and other plant based proteins. Many of you already rock this eating lifestyle! Carnivores, get curious and try it! This week look to replace a meal or three with plant based proteins. Try your hands at Homemade Raman! https://amindfullmom.com/ramen-recipe/#wprm-recipe-container-16609

HEALTH
This week please research the difference between infectious vs. Noninfectious diseases, the prevention of those and familiarize yourself with a few names. For example, understand that cancer (non-infectious) can be influenced by exposure to hazards and not using PPE, in particular exposure to a certain infectious disease (STI/STD). How do vaccines play into this ? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lXMc15dA-vw

Evaluate Websites
When you use databases and books as research sources, you know they are reliable because they have an editor that evaluates the source for you. However, anyone can create a website...and they may not be an expert on the topic. So, how do you know if the source is reliable and therefore you can use it for you research? YOU will have to evaluate the site. Here’s how:
Current –When was the site last updated?
Relevant –Does it answer any of your questions? It’s easy to get off task
while searching the internet----links, ads, related topics
Accurate—Does the information on this site agree with the facts you
found in your books and databases?
Author—Does is list an author? Can you find out if the author is an expert
on this topic? (maybe Google the name, check credentials listed)
Is the name associated with the site well known and respected?
For example—National Geographic, History Channel, etc.
Purpose—What is the purpose of this site? Are they biased? Are they
trying to get you to agree with them, give false information,
get you to donate or buy something? OR are they just giving
facts and those facts agree with your other sources.
https://www.factmonster.com/dk/encyclopedia/science/erosion
Go to this web site. Answer the CRAAP questions.
Use this research question:
What causes coastal erosion?
Current---When was it last updated? _________________
Relevant—Does it cover any of your questions? __________
Accurate—Does it agree with other sources? ______________ You could
go to World Book online and Gale Research and check.
Author—Is there an author? _______This site actually has a “cite” button.
Click on this and see if there is an author listed on the citation.
Purpose—What is the purpose of the article? ___________________
