Week 3 of Term 1

Dear Ross Families,

We look forward to sharing grade level information at each classroom's virtual Back to School Night this week. Teachers will send out the Teams meeting links in their Weekly Update and will record the virtual meeting for parents who are unable to attend.

Tuesday, September 14: PK, K-1 at 6:00pm

We are excited to launch our morning enrichments the week of September 20. Please see below for details as well as information about our new before and after school academic supports. Due to limited staff capacity and the health and safety protocols in place, we recognize that the scheduling may not work for all families. Thank you in advance for your patience and flexibility as we strive to offer a variety of options for our K-5 learners. Enrichments for PK4 will be offered in the PK4 classroom during the school day.

Please note the EDCJCC is closed September 15-16 in observance of Yom Kippur.

New this year, some Ross staff members are offering Sunrise Scholars (before school starting at 8:00am) and Afternoon Academy (after school from 3:30-4:30) supports for selected learners by invitation only. Ms. Adams, School Psychologist, is the POC for this program and will be contacting families via email with letters of invitation starting Monday, September 13. All sessions will begin the week of September 20. If you receive an invitation and have questions about your child's needs, please contact your child's teacher directly. Groups will flexibly change throughout the year based on children's progress and performance in the areas of Reading, Writing and Math. This extra programming will not replace the school-day supports and interventions we offer. Ashlee.adams@k12.dc.gov

Ross staff are excited to offer the following before school enrichments. All enrichments offered by Ross staff are free of charge and will begin promptly at 8:00am. Complete the interest form by Thursday, September 16. If demand exceeds capacity, we will select participants randomly. You will be informed of your child's enrichment class by close of school day on Friday, September 17. New enrichment sessions will start at the beginning of each Term. Term 1 ends on November 1.

In addition the above enrichments, Zivorad (Ziko) Djuric will be offering fee-based Chess classes before school on the following days:

K-1 Chess: Tuesdays

2-3 Chess: Wednesdays

4-5 Chess: Thursdays

OSSE has partnered with COVID-19 testing vendor Shield T3 to provide saliva based PCR testing to 20% of the enrolled population in every school each week. At Ross, approximately 32 students will be randomly identified for testing every Wednesday. Your student will be included in the randomized sample unless you complete and return the opt-out form. If you need a paper copy, please ask. You can learn about the testing process by watching this video. Teachers will review the process with students in class. Patient Care Techs (PCTs) will pick selected students up from class and accompany them to the testing vendors. You will receive a letter in backpack mail if your child was selected for testing along with directions for setting up your account in the "point and click" PNC portal to review results. Directions for setting up the account are also attached below. The agency code for Ross is RossES.

There is a Point and Click help desk parents can call for help logging into Shield T3. The number is: 833-762-0762

If you have questions about asymptomatic testing, please reach out to Principal Searl.

Immunization notices were sent home by Nurse Gordon on September 8 if your child is out of compliance. Required immunizations must be completed by October 12 for students to remain in school. Kindly note that the letters are auto-generated by DCPS. Immunization questions should be directed to Nurse Gordon.

If you currently have a Kids Ride Free card from last year, it is valid until September 30.
