CSD Back-to-School Top 3
Your monthly school district newsletter
A Message from the Superintendent
Dear Canby School District Families,
With a few more weeks of summer break to go, I want to take a moment to welcome you to the 2022-2023 school year and make sure you have the information you need to start off on the right foot on Sept. 6.
I am so proud to be a part of Canby School District, and I am glad you are here too! Whether attending a Canby school for the first time or returning, we want to make sure each student feels welcome and connected to their school. I encourage you to attend back-to-school events and to feel free to reach out to school staff if you have any questions or want to share your wins!
Please read on for the back-to-school version of the CSD Top 3, those three things we think you need to know plus the monthly meal menus; and visit our back-to-school web page for everything you need to jump into the school year, including registration information, the school calendar, supply lists, and more.
Let’s make it a fantastic school year!
Sincerely,
Dr. Aaron Downs, Superintendent
Free and Reduced-Price Meals
Over the last two years, school meals have been free to all of our students, regardless of income, due to a pandemic-related provision of the federal school nutrition program. This year, we return to offering paid, reduced-price, and free breakfasts and lunches depending on need.
For this reason, it is important for families who may have a need to fill out an updated free and reduced meal application as soon as possible to avoid being charged unnecessarily!
Bus Transportation
Student Transportation of America provides bus transportation for Canby School District. Together with STA, we want to make every ride a great ride! If you plan to take advantage of bus transportation this year, please check out the notes below!
Take a look at this Checklist for a Great Ride, and please share it with your students. Note that bus drivers will be implementing assigned seating to help them get to know students and to help keep riders safe.
Tentative bus routes are posted on our transportation web page and will be updated a few times each year, but for the latest route information and to track your student’s bus in real time, use the Traversa Ride 360 app – available online and for free in the App Store and Google Play.
To add a student in the app for the first time, click “Find a Student” and fill in all fields: the student’s six-digit student ID number, their school (for high school students, try the “small loop” option first), and their grade level (include a zero for single-digit grade levels, e.g. 09 for a freshman).
Please know that if your student does not ride the bus for two weeks, they will be dropped from their route. If you have extenuating circumstances and want to ensure your student is not dropped or you have other questions about your student’s route, please contact your school secretary or STA at 503-263-1007 or CanbySchoolBus@ridesta.com.
Student iPads
Recently, technology allowed for staff and students to continue teaching and learning from home, and we are thankful for what we learned about instructional technology use during that time. Going forward, our goal as a district is to continue to use technology as an appropriate tool when it is effective for instruction, engagement, and communication.
In Canby School District, we provide each student with an internet-enabled iPad for school use. We want to partner with parents and guardians to ensure that technology use is appropriate at school and outside of school. Please visit our iPad Information page for a helpful FAQ.
What's for Lunch?
