Message from the Superintendent
Dear RSU 57 Community,
As we close the 2022-23 academic year, it is a time for reflection, appreciation, and forward-looking excitement. This past school year, our students, teachers, and staff have shown remarkable commitment to learning and there have been many accomplishments along the way. Our students' academic achievements have been many, with numerous distinctions at local and state levels. Our teachers have innovatively incorporated technology into their instruction, enhancing the learning experience for our students. Additionally, our extracurricular programs have seen high levels of participation, revealing the diverse talents and interests of our students. These successes are testament to the commitment, dedication, and hard work that RSU 57 teachers, staff members, coaches and advisors have given to our students.
We wish all our students and their families a restful and joyful summer. After a year filled with hard work and progress, this is an opportunity to take time to relax, recharge, and pursue personal interests. We hope you take advantage of the beautiful weather, spend time with loved ones, and explore the joys of lifelong learning outside the classroom. Remember, summer is not only a season for recreation but also a time for imagination and exploration.
Looking ahead, we are excited about the promise of the 2023-24 school year. Our School Board will be adopting a new Strategic Plan for RSU 57 that will provide our district with a focused direction for our work moving forward. We remain committed to fostering an environment that supports academic excellence, social growth, and personal development. We look forward to welcoming all students back in the fall, ready to build upon the successes of this year and reach even greater heights. We trust in the continued collaboration and support from our entire school community to ensure that our schools remain a place where every student can succeed.
Thank you for your unwavering support of our school community. Here's to a fantastic summer and an even more remarkable year to come!
Warm Regards,
Dr. Stephen D. Marquis

Harvest of the Month
Students at Shapleigh Memorial School learned about all about May's Harvest of the Month, blueberries! They learned lots of facts about blueberry harvesting in Maine, headed to the kitchen to make blueberry smoothies and had a delicious taste test. Thank you to our Nutrition Department and our e-Learning Coaches for coordinating this awesome activity! (Pictured below)
Little Mustang Meadow - Now Open!
In December of 2022, RSU #57 was granted $25,000 from the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation National Paralysis Resource Center to build an ADA compliant playground at the Massabesic East building. Known as the "Little Mustang Meadow", this play area will be accessed during the school day by elementary age students who attend high needs special education programming in Waterboro. The accessible ground cover will provide greater access to our young learners as well as to our community members who may have mobility challenges.
Construction of the playground finished on June 8. Although there are still a few remaining features to be added, the Little Mustang Meadow is NOW OPEN to our students and community members! Click the video below to watch the transformation.
RSU #57 is appreciative of the generosity and support that we have received from the Reeve Foundation and are excited to have this feature in our community.
Pre-K Penpals
Throughout the school year, Ms. Brown's Pre-K class at LINE School and Mrs. Carlson's PreK class at Waterboro Elementary have been exchanging letters and drawings as penpals. Last week, students celebrated their blossoming friendships by gathering at LINE School for a fun morning of parachute games, nature walks, and friendship activities. (Pictured below)
Envirothon Competition
On May 25th, two Massabesic High School teams competed at Envirothon in Sabattus, ME. Envirothon is a national competition which has regional and state events. This was the first time Massabesic participated in this event. Both teams had a great day and had a lot of fun participating. Team 1 placed third, only 4 points below the second place winner. Way to go, Mustangs! (Pictured below)
Special Olympics Sendoff
Massabesic High School continued the long-held tradition of sending off our Special Olympians as they headed to their Summer Games on Friday, June 9. Hundreds of students and staff lined West Road to cheer on the caravan, led by SRO Scott Corey. Good luck, athletes! (Video below)
