Hatherly's Summer Reading Book Fair will be the week of June 6th in the library. There will be a Family Night on Tuesday, June 7th from 5:30pm-7pm. There are 3 ways that you can help:

- 2-3 parent volunteers for each class

- 2-3 parent volunteers for Family Night

- Book Runners - will stop by Buttonwoods at the assigned time and pick up any books that are waiting to be brought to Hatherly.

Third graders built and programmed robots with Mrs. Dorgan in their tech classes. They made Gorillas, dolphins, race cars and more!

Fourth Graders attended a district wide field trip called Weather Education Day at Gillette Stadium! Students learned about weather from the WBZ Weather Team and members of the New England Revolution Team. They focused on weather and the impact it has on the environment!

The fifth grade Student Government had a VERY successful Ukrainian fundraiser sale today to benefit Ukrainians! Over $900 was donated by students and staff! All proceeds will go to Project C.U.R.E in support of Ukraine. Thank you to all our students, families, and staff who donated to this important cause to help the victims of Ukraine.

For the month of May, the Hatherly all school theme will be ‘GRIT’! To wrap up our April theme of ‘Empowerment’, we began our all school meeting by showcasing the students of Hatherly School practicing their power poses . Two more groups from Hatherly were also invited up on stage to share about the positive and empowering work they are doing. First we heard from Sasha Mullen, Tessa Lynch, and Chloe Beale to share about the fundraiser they organized; to help raise money for Ukraine through creating blue and yellow paintings to sell, along with bracelets that support Ukraine. Next, the LIT team shared about the work they do to help promote Love, Inclusion, and Trust within the Hatherly Community.

Next, the definition of ‘Grit’ was introduced with a fun video from Finding Nemo, in which students were asked to guess which parts showed examples of Grit and why. From there, students were shown a series of slides with kids doing hard things, and asked to share how the kids in the images may have used grit and perseverance to master their skills. Together the school practiced our chant “I AM BRAVE, I AM STRONG, I CAN DO HARD THINGS, I HAVE GRIT!” Finally, students were introduced to this month’s all school activity - Students will be given a sheet of paper that asks them to draw themselves and write about an activity that they cannot do YET, in addition to another spot to draw and write about what kind of GRIT they might need to accomplish this skill or goal.

It can feel awkward expressing our feelings to those around us, but being able to honestly tell our friends, family, coworkers, etc. when things are bothering us can help us build stronger, happier relationships. Try listing things you appreciate about them before going into the conversation and start by telling them something you appreciate. If something has been bothering you, let them know how you’re feeling using I statements. Go into the conversation ready to talk things through and find a solution together rather than going in annoyed or angry and just wanting them to change. Keeping in mind what you appreciate about them can help you focus on finding a solution that allows you to both be happy.
