At Jeffries, our 1st through 5th graders have the opportunity to serve on a Leadership Group. These groups have many different responsibilities. The application for groups was made available to students on Wednesday, August 28. Applications are in the library and it is the responsibility of the student to get an application from the library if they are interested. Applications are due by Thursday, September 5. However, applications are dated for when they are turned in, giving those preference if groups have more applicants than openings. Students watched a video in class on Wednesday, August 28, previewing the jobs available and the information about applying. The application can also be found HERE if you would like to see what is available. Make sure to pay special attention to the grade specifications for certain groups. For a student's application to be considered, they must turn the application in on time, it has to be completed, and the application has to have a parent signature.

Last year, we started hosting 4 total breakfasts a year: 2 for Motherly Figures and 2 for Fatherly Figures. These breakfasts were greatly attended and we are SO EXCITED to continue those breakfasts. These mornings are a great time for you to just get some extra, intentional time with your children, free of all of the other distractions of the normal routines. We truly hope you are able to attend! So that everyone can already put the dates on their calendar, we wanted to let you know when they would occur. The breakfasts start at 7:50 a.m. and end at 8:40 a.m. The dates are:

• Tuesday, October 1: Fatherly Figures Breakfast
• Tuesday, November 19: Motherly Figures Breakfast
• Tuesday, January 28: Fatherly Figures Breakfast
• Tuesday, March 31: Motherly Figures Breakfast

Springfield Public Schools provides free/reduced price meals for eligible school children under the National School Lunch Program and the School Breakfast program. Families must apply for free and reduced meals each school year. We encourage ALL families to complete an application, as it also helps Jeffries with funding. If a family member becomes unemployed or if family size changes after filing your application, a new application will need to be filed.

Springfield Public Schools is pleased to announce that we will begin using a visitor management system known as Hall Pass. The system will support our ongoing efforts to provide a safe environment for our students and staff by helping us better track all visitors in our schools, including parents, friends, volunteers and other guests.

To help prepare for this new process, we are providing the following overview of how the system works.

• Upon entering the school, visitors will be asked to present a valid state-issued ID, which will be scanned into the system.

• Upon reading the information, Hall Pass will compare visitor identification data against an integrated, comprehensive database of registries for every state and the District of Columbia. This scanning process is quick, easy and has the ability to provide alerts on people who could jeopardize the safety of our school.

• Once the ID has been scanned and entry into our school is approved, the system will create a unique badge that identifies the visitor and date of the visit. Visitors will be required to wear this badge throughout their visit.

• Upon leaving the school, the badge is returned to the office for sign out. During that individual’s next visit to any SPS school, a new badge is easily produced through Hall Pass without the need to rescan the ID.

The safety of our students is our highest priority and the Hall Pass visitor management system provides a consistent way to help ensure that those who are granted access to our schools do not present a danger to our students and staff. This approach to visitor management complements the work to provide the 31 additional secure entrances approved by voters in April as part of Proposition S. In support of this integrated effort, all visitors to the school must be scanned into the system and obtain a visitor badge.
