Together We Can
November 28, 2022
We hope that everyone had a relaxing Thanksgiving Recess. It is now just four short weeks until our December Holiday Recess. I look forward to seeing all of the wonderful celebrations that will occur at the schools in the next few weeks.
On Wednesday, November 16, I provided an update to the Board of Education on the progress on the PCG Report and Action Plan. I invite you to watch my presentation and the Board meeting discussion. I am happy to share that the SESS Department continues to make progress toward all 28 of the recommendations.
Best,
Stacey Heiligenthaler, Ph.D.

What We Are Seeing 👀 Around the Schools
Preschool Morning Movers
Beth Forger, from the preschool department, is working with preschool students at North Street School during "Morning Movers." Movement is an important part of every students day by developing gross motor skills and getting ready to learn in the classroom.
Decoding at Glenville School
Ms. Daur's reading group at Glenville School is playing "Sneaky Turkey" to review new words and patterns. Students are applying decoding strategies to read words containing short vowel sounds. They are identifying sounds and blending sounds to create words.
Nonfiction at Riverside School
Mrs. Neitzell's first grade class participated in a lesson on how to read nonfiction text. Students were asked questions about key details in the text.
Co-teaching at Eastern Middle School
Ms Ralston’s and Ms Lamonto’s eighth grade collab English class at Eastern Middle School is starting a new unit on nonfiction. The class engaged in discussions on the importance of reading nonfiction and shared examples.

Fall 2022 Progress Reports
At each marking period, progress on IEP goals and objectives are sent out to families. For this fall marking period, due to the change in IEP systems, there will be a slight delay and progress reports will be sent out to families no later than the start of winter break. Thank you for your patience and understanding as the District transitions to the new state IEP system
CT SEDS for IEP and 504's
IEP and 504 documents now have a different look. The new CT-SEDS system is now being used for all IEPs and 504s. The SESS Department has put together resources to families as we work in the new system. Please pay special attention to the Parent Portal as it is a new way IEP and 504 documents can be viewed and signed.
