These students will be presented with their award by Bishop Matano at a special Recognition Ceremony at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Rochester.
BRING LAST YEAR's DRIED PALMS back to Holy Trinity by February 4
We will burn these for our ashes to be used on ASH WEDNESDAY. Because the Palms have been blessed by a priest and therefore are holy objects, they should not be disposed of in the regular fashion. Instead, you may bury them or burn them and spread the ashes outside. Alternatively, you are invited to bring them to Holy Trinity and drop them off in the collection baskets in the Gathering Space, the Faith Formation Office, or the Main Parish Office by February 4. We will then burn them in a special service as part of our Faith Formation program to make the ashes for Ash Wednesday.
Meaning and Origin of the Ashes
The first day of Lent is Ash Wednesday, which falls on February 14 this year. On this special day of reflection, Catholics wear a marking of the cross in ash on their foreheads. The ashes symbolize our mortality – “Remember you are dust, and to dust you shall return.”
But you might be wondering, where do the ashes for Ash Wednesday come from, and why do we even celebrate Ash Wednesday and Lent? Click here to find out!
Lent Resources from Holy Trinity
For children, our “Lenten Calendar for Children” booklet is available in the Gathering Space. With a little activity for every day of Lent, this booklet helps us to grow in virtue during this special time in our faith.
For families, enjoy this "2024 Lent Family Calendar" full of prayerful ideas for our 40 day journey.
For adults, the “Little Black Books” for use on our journey through Lent are available in the Gathering Space and at all entrances starting on Ash Wednesday. In this season of prayer, fasting and almsgiving, reflect on Christ's life based on the Passion narrative in the book of Luke.
For everyone, Rice Bowls are available in the Gathering Space and at all entrances for our annual support of Operation Rice Bowl, a wonderful way, especially for children and families, to practice almsgiving during Lent. For those who choose to participate, you are invited to drop your CRS Rice Bowl off at any time to the Faith Formation Office, or the main Parish Office, through Sunday, April 7. Thank you for your generosity!
CAMP STELLA MARIS CAMPS
February Break Camp is a day camp for kids ages 5-12 the week of February 19. Campers will get to enjoy traditional camp activities such as gaga, Ham Jams, arts & crafts, and games and have the opportunity to go on a sledding trip to Mendon Ponds Park if the weather permits. CSM offers full and partial financial aid based on need and all campers are eligible.
Teen Leadership Camp is a new program at CSM for teens ages 14-17. The weekend of February 16-18 will be an opportunity for young people to grow in their leadership skills/21st century skills, all while having fun with camp staff and other campers. This weekend is dedicated to helping teens reflect on who they are and want to become, how to work on a team, and how to take on challenges in their lives to move towards their goals. As this program is part of our new grant, we can offer most of our participants a full scholarship to our program, with families only being responsible for a deposit of $25.

CHRISTIAN SERVICE OPPORUNTITIES
Jesus calls us to serve others!
‘Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.’
Matthew 25:40
The Church is the people of God all gifted by the mystery of God’s presence and empowered by the Holy Spirit to share these gifts with others. This call to ministry, or service, is an integral part of living the Good News and is an important part of our preparation to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.
Service work should reflect the command Jesus gave us, that we loved God and our neighbor. Therefore, we need to do more than just read and talk about love: we must practice it daily.
