During the month of December, Canby High School leadership classes held collection efforts to benefit the Kiwanis Canby Community Food & Toy Drive. After all was said and done, they were able to fill the back of an SUV with gifts, and they had raised more than $1,200 to contribute to the community event for families in need. To all who participated: Thank you for your efforts and generosity!
School Board Recognition Month
During January, Canby School District will join education organizations around the state to observe School Board Recognition Month. Canby School District’s Board of Directors is made up of seven elected members who spend many hours as volunteers to make decisions that support student achievement. Please join us in thanking our school board members Stefani Carlson, Dawn Depner, Sara Magenheimer, Tom Scott, Rob Sheveland, Sherry Smith, and Shelley Vissers.
Bond Dollars at Work
Thanks to voters’ approval of the 2020 school bond, we continue to make headway on improvements to district facilities. Planning is well underway for updates to Canby High School, including safety improvements, a new commons area, a science wing, and more. Demolition begins in the spring of 2022, and groundbreaking is expected in summer of 2022. Take a peek at the renderings of the science wing provided to us by Mahlum Architecture.
Planning is also underway for Lee Elementary, Baker Prairie, Carus, and Ninety-One – all of which will get secure vestibules at the entrances to their buildings this summer.
As we welcome students back from winter break, we want to continue our partnership with you to help keep students, staff, and the community safe. Please remind your students to follow our COVID-19 health and safety protocols, which include staying home when they have symptoms, wearing a face covering over nose and mouth, practicing physical distancing, and washing hands.
We are anticipating updated guidance from Clackamas County Public Health in response to the CDC’s announcement around shortened isolation and quarantine periods. Until then, students and staff who test positive for COVID-19 should continue to isolate for 10 days, and those who are exposed have several quarantine options.
