Curtis Chronicles
May 9, 2022
Hello from Curtis Principal, Sonya Pitcock
Cougar families,
Our time this year has flown by, and we are so excited to send our students off for a summer break after the hard work they have put in this school year. We have a few reminders about the remaining weeks of this year.
First, all students will be taking STAAR on May 10 and 11 for Math and Reading. Students need to bring their CHARGED chromebooks for testing on both days. Students can bring a snack for testing and a water bottle with a closed lid. Students can dress comfortably and in layers, but must be in dress code. Our lunches are on an altered scheduled in those days, so we will not be taking lunch drop offs.
Our final exams will be May 16-19 with any makeups needed being given on Friday the 20th. Students who are absent for their exam will be given 10 days to make it up or their grade will be entered as a zero. The last day of school is an early release day at 12:35 p.m. Buses will run at the altered time, and all students will have the opportunity to eat lunch at school before they leave. If any student is planning to ride a bus home with a friend, they must have a note from a parent signed by an administrator BEFORE the last day in order to be allowed to get on the bus. We will not be taking phone calls to give permission to ride.
Our Meet the Teacher 2022-2023 will be on August 3 from 3-5 for 8th grade and 5:30 – 7:30 for 7th grade. All immunizations and back-to-school forms must be completed before students will be able to see their schedule.
Empower 1:1 Program summer information:
As part of the Empower 1:1 program and to provide students with equitable and enriching learning opportunities year-round, Allen ISD students who have paid the insurance fee can take home their school-assigned device over the summer. Access to internet content through district devices will continue to be filtered through the summer months regardless of location or network connection being utilized. Additionally, the Responsible Use Policies and other student expectations are still applicable when students utilize district-provided devices and student accounts.
Insurance Fee Details for the Summer Take Home Program:
- Families that paid the insurance fee during the 2021-2022 school year and are returning to Allen ISD for the 2022-2023 school year, will take home their device over the summer unless the opt-out option is selected below.
- Families who have not yet paid the insurance fee in grades 3-11, but wish to opt-in to take home their student device over the summer can pay the insurance fee through school pay for the Summer Take Home Program by May 13 of 2022.
- Insurance fees paid in April/May for the Summer Take Home Program will cover the insurance fee for school year 2022-2023.
If you paid the insurance fee and wish to opt-out of the summer device program you must complete the Google Form to ensure the device remains on campus. Otherwise your student will take home the device over the summer and bring it back for use on the first day of school in August.
Please visit our Empower 1:1 webpage for more information or email empower1to1@allenisd.org.
Lastly, we want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all our families who support our staff and students each day. We know how busy you all are, and we are thankful that we get to partner with you to support the growth of your children. We hope you all have a safe and relaxing summer!

Summer Support
We wanted to let you know that City House will be hosting some groups this summer for teens. These groups will run twice a week for 3 weeks. (6 sessions total) One session will be for those entering 7th - 9th grade, and another session will be held for those entering 10th - 12th grade.
A licensed therapist will cover topics such as healthy relationships, depression, anxiety, bullying, self-care, self-esteem, and coping skills.
These groups are FREE, but registration is required. Please see the following flyers for further details.
Congratulations to our PTA awardees for going above & beyond for the benefit of our PTA, school campus, and students!
Bylaws & Standing Rules
On Friday, April 8, the PTA Executive Board voted to recommend 1 change to Article IX, Section 1A of the Bylaws. The Bylaws currently provide that the Nominating Committee is comprised of 3 members and 2 alternates. The proposed change would reduce the Nominating Committee to 3 members and 1 alternate. This change will be voted on by PTA membership during the May membership meeting on Friday, May 13, 2022. The Executive Board also recommends several changes to the Standing Rules. Click here for a summary of those changes.
The changes to the Standing Rules will also be voted on during the during the May membership meeting on Friday, May 13, 2022.
Please contact Beth Bradley, PTA Parliamentarian at parliamentarian@curtiscougarpta.org if you have any questions about the Bylaws or Standing Rules.
Thank You CMS PTA Business Sponsors!
The PTA would like to extend our gratitude to the businesses that sponsored the CMS PTA this year. Every business sponsorship received was used towards supporting our students and staff through programs such as Red Ribbon Week, Reflections Art Program, Teacher Appreciation, Staff Grants, and Senior Scholarships.
We know that in these times many businesses are struggling, so we ask that you consider supporting these local businesses like they have supported us.
