MPVA Weekly Update

February 27 - March 3, 2023

Dear Parents and Greyhounds,

This week our PTO is launching a school-wide fundraiser to benefit our PE Department. Every student at MPVA is required to take PE while they are in middle school. Through this fundraiser, the PTO will help MPVA with need equipment upgrades and grounds maintenance. More details are provided below.

Also, we invite our students to wear a school-appropriate baseball shirt or jersey on Tuesday. On Tuesday we celebrate Opening Day and support our baseball team as they take on Pin Oak on our field at 4:15 PM. There will be a parking lot tailgate in the teacher parking lot after school. We look forward to seeing many of you there!

VERIZON INNOVATION LEARNING SCHOOL (VILS)

This week, students in Ms. Mitchell’s and Mr. Reynoso’s seventh grade Texas History classes visited the Verizon Innovative Learning Lab to see the many resources available to them. They also got a short lesson on 3D printing. Student Tech Team members were on hand to share our successes and failures in 3D printing. They also tested out sample Virtual Reality (VR) tours. The students were able to immerse themselves in a shark dive excursion, look down at the beach in Dubai, and visit the moon - among other cool destinations!

MPVA ATHLETICS

Play Ball! We have 5 games - 2 Softball and 3 Baseball - this week.

Catch the Greyhound spirit this Tuesday, February 28th with Opening Day at MPVA and our first home baseball game! There will be a tailgate on Tuesday that we hope you can join.

FROM THE PTO

Beginning Monday, our PTO is holding a two-weeklong pledge-a-thon to raise money that will benefit the Physical Education Dept! Throughout these two weeks, Greyhounds will collect pledges from family and friends by sharing an individual fundraising link through email, text, and social media. On the morning of March 10, our fundraiser will culminate with a school-wide, dance-a-thon party. DJ and all! For students who don't want to dance, we'll have a Wallflower area designated for reading and playing games.

With funds raised, PTO looks forward to working in partnership with HISD to tackle a wish list of needs from our Physical Education department including a new gym sound system, TLC for our outdoor athletic spaces, purchasing new goals, painting the track, purchasing storage for our pool lane ropes, and more.

Thanks in advance for helping spread the word to your students and their families. Teachers are also absolutely invited to create their own pledge pages to share and use to collect donations!!
