Bond Issue 2023
Front of New Elementary
Multi-Purpose Flex Center
AG/FFA Remodel
By a unanimous vote, the Adair Board of Education approved a $17,285,000 school bond proposal during the December board meeting.
The bond proposal by Adair Public Schools features a new main building for Bernita Hughes Elementary with a safe room storm shelter. It also includes the construction of a multi-purpose flex center, expansion and improvements to the AG building, along with new band uniforms.
The existing Bernita Hughes Elementary was built in 1968 and has undergone 5 additions. Many of the classrooms have only two working electrical outlets and the building has two different roof systems that frequently leak. We currently do not have any safe rooms on campus to shelter and protect our kids during a tornado. Adair students deserve new, safe, modern spaces in which to learn and grow.
The citizens of Adair take great pride in our community and school system. If there is one thing Adair does through the years is we unite together to take care of our children. We must safeguard our students and their future by meeting their educational, mental/emotional health, physical health, and safety/security needs - now.
On February 14, 2023, we have the opportunity to yet again help and support our students, staff, and learning community. The bond proposal is based on classroom space, safety and security, and number of students impacted. Please know, all of the items included on the bond proposal are needed to meet and propel educational opportunities for our children and adequately prepare them for their next chapters in life.
The total bond proposal calls for an investment of $17,285,000 over 12 years. If you paid $1,000 in property taxes, this bond will cost you $6.45 more per month.
At Adair Public Schools, we have much to celebrate and be proud of - from high academic achievement in the classroom, award-winning faculty and staff, national and state recognized programs in FFA, FFCLA, Band, Choir, and Robotics, superior athletics, and the best students anywhere.
“Our APS Community is a family - whether you were born and raised here or moved here later. We help one another without hesitation, continuously give back, lift one another up, and never waver in our commitment to maintain high expectations,” said Superintendent Mark Lippe. “We have the power to increase and improve opportunities for our students and to ‘Invest In APS.’ Please join me in voting on February 14, 2023.”
