Updates from the principal's office
Greetings Sward Families:
As we settle into the school year, we ask that the rules for arrival and dismissal still be followed... for everyone's safety. Our patrol guards are doing such a fine job helping our Eagles cross safely at the crosswalks. You can help, too :)
Please follow the traffic pattern at both arrival and dismissal:
- At arrival, please be mindful of the "no parking- drop off only" zones marked by the signs and cones that say no parking. This is meant to have a smooth and efficient drop off. If you would like to get out of your car and stand near your child until they enter the building, you are most welcome to. We just ask that you park across the street or in a zone where parking is okay. This will keep a smooth flow to the drop off and get our students inside the building to start their day's lessons right away. This includes anyone that may need to come into the office to check in or drop anything off. If you are doing this during arrival time, please park once you have passed the sign that says "parking only beyond this sign" so those cars dropping their children off on the sidewalk apron will have enough room to safely pull out without getting stuck.
- At dismissal, please refrain from waving your children to run to your car through the middle of the street. Instead, please take them to the crosswalk for the crossing guard to assist.
- Also, please remember that the staff parking lot is for staff parking only. There are a limited amount of spots available and we want to ensure that our staff members have a place to park. We have some staff members that travel to and from other schools throughout the course of the day. While many cars arrive in the morning and stay throughout the course of the day, that is not the case for all. For example, our lunchroom supervisors are here everyday but only in the middle of the day.
Thank you, in advance for your help in this matter.

A Note from PTA
Hi Sward families! September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and marks a special day for one of our Sward Eagles, AJ: he’s finishing up his cancer treatment! AJ is a second grader in Mrs. Opiola’s class and has bravely battled leukemia since 2019.
On Saturday, September 18, we will be participating in a car parade to celebrate AJ beating cancer and invite you all to join us!
Meet us at the St. Linus parking lot at 1:30 PM. Feel free to decorate your cars with gold, the color to commemorate Childhood Cancer Awareness month, or Sward blue!
Please reach out to Blanca at 708-577-9768 with any questions. Feel free to share the event with all Sward families.

Technology Notes
- Please remember to send your child to school each day with their Chromebook charged and ready to go. Technology is an integral part of our learning everyday.
- Families have until September 30, 2021 to register for Chromebook insurance at the cost of $25.00 per child. Repairs to the Chromebooks can be quite costly and the insurance will definitely help to keep the cost down. This can be completed through Skyward Family Access. If you have any questions, please call the Sward main office at (708)423-7820.
