GREETINGS TIGER PARENT COMMUNITY
As we approach the last 23 days of school please continue to encourage your children to do their best and finish strong. We are currently in Diagnostic season and students are currently completing their NC Math Assessment and mClass EOY Benchmark. As for stated please continue to encourage your child to stay focused and work hard to ensure that they reach their benchmark growth goals. GRADE LEVEL AND DEPARTMENT NEWS
Kindergarten: Hi Kindergarten Family, Next week we will be discussing Beach, and reviewing all the letters/Letterland Characters, sounds, working on CVC words, blends, digraphs, sight words, number 0-30, and addition/subtraction. Our trip to Pine Knolls Shores Aquarium will be Friday, May 19. All money is due for the trip by May 10. Reminder information will be coming home soon. Save the Date: Our Kindergarten Graduation will be on Tuesday, June 6 at 9:00 am. Information about this event will be sent home soon.
First Grade: Hello from First Grade! Next week, we’ll continue with informational texts and learn about alligators and crocodiles. We’ll still be working with r-controlled vowels with our Letterland focus for the week, specifically looking at ir and ur words. Our words are: bird, girl, burn, shirt, turning, curly, hurt, first, nurse, thirsty. In math, 3-D shapes is what we’ll be working on. Please put a note in your calendar that our End of the Year Awards for first grade will be Wednesday, June 7th at 9:00.
Second Grade: Greetings from Second Grade! Be reminded that our field trip is scheduled for May 24th, 2023 to Marbles Kids Museum in Raleigh, NC. Any parent/guardian who plans to attend must complete the volunteer information for Martin County Schools. The cost for students is $20 and the cost for parents is $12. All monies for the field trip are due by May 17, 2023.
Next week we begin to learn how author’s use reasons to support ideas in informational text. In math we will begin to learn how to partition shapes into halves, thirds, and fourths. In science we will study how offspring resemble their parents and how traits are passed to offspring. Please continue to read AR books, complete the weekly homework packet, study spelling words, and practice basic math facts with sums to 20.

Art: Our awesome little artists have been learning about Vincent Van Gogh this week! We have looked at several of his artworks. Students created their own Flower Portraits after we discussed Van Gogh’s Sunflowers. Art Club- we have begun painting on our collaborative project!
Music: Students enjoyed the Primary Drumming’ (no g) balls these last two weeks. It is a DRUMS ALIVE program. Ballads, ribbon wands, improvisation on xylophones, and rhythm games will be used for assessments and creative activities. End of Year closing program songs will be practiced during music classes! Be sure to check out the Music Google Classroom for resources!
Library: The bookfair will be here soon! Starting Monday MAY 15 through Friday MAY 19, WPS will be having their last bookfair of the year. It is a Buy-One-Get-One Free event. This means for every ONE item you buy, you can get another item that is the same price (or less) for free. If you do not want your child to bring cash with them to the bookfair we have another option for you to load money to an E-Wallet. You can find out how to do this by going to this website or QR Code.

STUDENT SERVICES
Any parents/guardians who missed our kindergarten registration for the 2023-24 school year should use the link below to sign up for a date/time to meet with our school counselor, Mrs. Whitaker, to complete this process. Children who will be 5 years old by August 31, 2023 are eligible for kindergarten in the fall.
