M-STEP TESTING 3rd - 6th Grades
April 7, 2022
Dear Parents/Guardians:
M-STEP season has arrived! There are a couple of notable changes from the testing requirements of the past couple of years. The biggest one being the U.S. Department of Education waivers temporarily removing the requirement to test are no longer in place. Therefore, “there is no acceptable way under state or federal law to allow an “opt-out” of state assessments,” as indicated by State Superintendent Dr. Michael Rice. In other words, ALL students in grades 3 - 6 are expected to take the M-STEP test here at Dryden Elementary School.
Here’s some important testing information:
Tests will be administered in the morning after universal breakfast and will typically be completed prior to recess and lunch.
April 11-14, 2022: 5th grade students will take the math, science, social studies, and ELA tests.
April 20 and 21, 2022: 3rd grade students will take the ELA and math tests.
April 27 and 28, 2022: 4th grade students will take the ELA and math tests.
May 3 and 4, 2022: 6th grade students will take the ELA and math tests.
We know the importance of school and home working together, so we are asking for your assistance. Please make every attempt to have your child attend school and be on time on testing days, and discuss the importance of putting forth his/her best effort. Additionally, encourage your child to get plenty of sleep the night(s) before so s/he is well rested and eat a high protein/low sugar breakfast either at home or school to fuel the body and brain. Finally, we know and understand these assessments can be challenging. Please help your child maintain a positive attitude on and after testing days. Your words of encouragement will be meaningful and help alleviate stress.
Keep in mind that an assessment such as this is one of many ways that learning is measured. It is, however, important and will be a regular part of your child’s educational experience. Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to partner with you on this journey. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Stacey Abromaitis
Principal
