The Southwest Flyer
January 2024
Happy New Year Southwest families! Hoping this finds you all having spent some quality time with your loved ones over the holiday break as well as staying safe and warm on all these snow days! This certainly was not the return we expected! We are anxiously looking forward to having our students back, but know a break from routine is always renewing!
This month our staff and teachers will spend time revisiting routines, procedures, and expectations to ease students back into the swing of things. We will also be intentional in rebuilding their stamina throughout the day and ease them back into their learning. This is a semester of strides. Strides to make to prepare them for testing and to stretch the progress they've made thus far. As always, we appreciate your support and constant communication so that we can work together to challenge your child to be their best selves.
Upon on our return, your child's gradecard was sent home. We hope you took some time to look them over and discuss with your child. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to your child's teacher(s).
With all this unexpected weather, we'd like to thank all of you for helping make our early release so smooth by either preparing your child or calling in with their change of plans. This is always preferred so that everyone can get the message. If during any of our weather events, you missed any of the district's communications, please be sure that the office has your correct contact information, i.e.. phone and email.
We hope that the new year brings a sense of new opportunity and growth for you and yours. Thank you for all you do to support Southwest!
Happy New Year!

Missed Minutes = Missed Learning
Just another reminder, as we move into the winter months that attendance is still important and vital to student success. Arriving to school late or checking out early equates to time missed in the classroom. Students can also miss important scheduled times outside of the classroom, such as library, Title One Reading, or other specials classes. We appreciate you doing what it takes to prepare your child for the school day and to be punctual.
