Farewell
The end of the school year can be bittersweet, and it certainly is for us this year as we bid farewell to Dr. Tara Woolever. Dr. Woolever has guided the helm of the Special Education ship for several years at JCHS in addition to being a guru for transportation, homebound and other student support services, just to name a few. She is leaving us for a principalship in Frederick County and will be sorely missed. It's not goodbye, Dr. Woolever; it's see you later! Congratulations, all the best, and have a great career on purpose!
Thanks
Thanks to our community, faculty, and staff for a tremendous tenth anniversary. We are excited for what's to come in year eleven!

Please note that LCPS requires a new physician order each school year for medication or specialized care which your child receives at school. If your student will continue to need medication or specialized health care at school, you and your student's licensed healthcare provider must complete and sign the proper forms. The required forms are availabe in the JCHS health office or online at www.lcps.org. This form and medication may be returned to JCHS the week prior to school starting in August.
Vaccinations for Current Juniors/Rising Seniors
All rising seniors are required to show proof of vaccination prior to the start of the 2023-24 school year. The requirement is one dose of the meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY, Menactra, or Menveo) given at age 16 or older. Please note: Men B, Bexsero, and Trumenba are not the same as MenACWY.

Sports
Spring Playoffs
Congratulations to our Varsity softball team who won their first ever Cedar Run District title with a 2-1 win over district rival Patriot. The Knights were led by District Player of the Year and First team all-District pitcher Ella Dawson with 17 strikeouts. To make the District Finals, the Knights had to take down the number 1 seeded Osbourn Park Yellow Jackets in a defensive battle 1-0.
Congratulations also goes out to our Softball and Girls Lacrosse teams as they advanced to the Region 6B semi-finals. Both teams were stopped by very good Colgan High School teams. We are proud of our Knights and all the hard work and dedication they displayed this year. We look forward to continued success as Champe Athletics moves into Region 4D and into the Catoctin District.
Senior athlete recognition
The Athlete of the Year award is designed to recognize the best athlete in the school for the current school year. The 2023 JCHS Athlete of the year was Katriel Amoyaw, who holds ten school records in Track.
The Iron Knight award is to celebrate the success of a male and female senior student athlete for their career achievements while at John Champe. These achievements include not only athletic, but academic, character, leadership, dedication and commitment to the school and community. The Class of 2023 recipients this year were Sarah Moskowitz and Calvin Cosenke.
Counseling
Our counseling department would like to remind you the final transcripts for seniors were submitted by the close of June 2. Report cards will be available June 16.
From the Class of 2023 survey, as reported by the student, 96% of the responses indicated continuing to college (83.4% at 4-year colleges; 12.6% at 2-year colleges), 1.8% other continuing education, 1.4% taking a gap year, 0.4% enlisting in the military, and 0.4% seeking employment. Please note this does not represent the entire class, only the students who completed the survey.
