Seventh Grade Newsletter
September 7, 2014
Dear Parents,
We had a wonderful, busy first week back at school. It was great to meet our new seventh graders and welcome them to the building. As a grand finale to the first day, the staff participated in the Ice Bucket Challenge. Click here to view the video.
English
We started creating our notebooks in class on Thursday. Students will need their notebooks every day. I have a place in the classroom to store them, but there may be some days when they need to come home. This week we will be working on informational writing. You can visit my website to see the schedule for the week. There is a link below, and also a link from the staff directory on the school district website.
New Notebooks
Students have their own composition books where they will keep their notes from English class.
Writing Ideas
Our first two pages will be collections of ideas for writing all year.
All About Me
Students created an "I" page filled with details about themselves.
Mrs. Garver's Website
Information for seventh and eighth grade students and their parents.
Band
Dear Middle School Band Students and Parents,
The Middle School Band is off to a roaring start! This year looks to be an outstanding year for our middle school band! Several students took advantage of the summer lessons that were offered through the Circle of Arts and I can definitely see the maturity in these student's sound! Those that took the summer off are ready to hit the road running and we will do their best to have music ready to join the marching band for homecoming so our alumni can get a handle on what the future looks like to our fine bands here at CMHS and the elementary school!
We will be holding and organizational meeting for our Charlevoix Band Booster group very soon. Keep a watch out for the announcement and begin thinking about what you may be interested in helping with!
Musically yours,

Apple ID
You should have received an email regarding your child's Apple ID, which is needed to set up student iPads. We have three categories: students who already had their own ID, students whose parents successfully set up their ID, and students without an ID. We would like to get iPads out to students this week, but we are waiting until a majority of them have Apple IDs. Students will need to know the ID and password. Please contact Mrs. Garver if you have any questions.
Day of Caring
Middle School students will be participating in the Char-Em United Way Day of Caring on Thursday, September 11. We will be cleaning area beaches and performing some simple water testing for the Alliance for the Great Lakes Adopt-a-Beach program. We will leave school right after lunch and return by the end of the day. Make sure your child is dressed to be outside for the afternoon. Work gloves will be provided. Please let me know if you are interested in joining us.
Rafting Trip
We are planning our annual seventh grade rafting trip for Friday, September 19. This exciting trip gives us a great chance to work together as a team and really get to know our students. The trip is also part of a cross-curricular project. Look for more information next week!
Thank you!
As always, please let us know if you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions.
Sincerely,
