PTA News
Dear Oak Families -
Join us this Wednesday, November 13th at 8:45am for our last PTA meeting of 2019. We will learn about Oak’s Distinguished School nomination, receive an update on the Community Engagement process, and hear from some of our fifth graders, who will share with us how the question “Should chocolate milk be served at Oak?” taught them how to become strong researchers, critical thinkers, and public speakers. In addition, there will be hot cider and “fall favorites” treats from the Oak bakers! We’ll see you there!
Save the Date!
Mark your calendars for Wednesday, December 11.
We are excited to introduce a new Shop & Dine Holiday experience for 2019 in partnership with two great local Los Altos businesses: Linden Tree Books and State of Mind Public House and Pizzeria.
Linden Tree Books will be open exclusively for Oak families and friends from 6-8pm. It’s the perfect time to get some of your holiday shopping done, and you’ll find fabulous in-store book displays organized by age. Best of all, 10% of your purchases will come back to Oak.
If you can’t make it between 6-8pm, you can stop by any time on December 11 and ask that your purchase go toward the Oak fundraiser. You can even shop online--just enter the code “OAKS” in the field labeled “discount code/school name”. That will ensure your purchase is included in the fundraiser. Please share this code with out-of-town friends and relatives who may want to get some book shopping done too!
If shopping makes you hungry, head over to State of Mind Public House & Pizzeria, the winner of the 2017 World Pizza Championship. State of mind will give 15% of all purchases on December 11th back to our school. This includes both dine-in and take-out orders throughout the day. Just remind them you would like your purchase to go to the Oak fundraiser.
For questions about the State of Mind fundraiser, contact Shweta at shweta.sahai78@gmail.com.
For questions about the Linden Tree Fundraiser, contact Julie Chai at julieschai@gmail.com.
We’ll see you there!
Our lifesavers this week are:
Paige Bennion, Jennie Blake, and Hillary Smith - our amazing staff appreciation team! Each month, they find a creative way to show our teachers and staff how much we appreciate them.
So far this year, they have provided Back to School survival kits, cookies and milk, and a Harvest Lunch for our incredible staff. Thanks for making sure our teachers and staff know how much we appreciate them!

School-wide Reading Challenge
Dear Oak Parents,
I want to let you know about a new school-wide reading challenge I am launching at Oak School. This challenge involves every grade level in some capacity for the entire school year.
Each Oak Student will receive a reading log, which asks them to read either by minutes, various types of books or read in different situations. They will then scratch off one of the circles on the sheet for every goal they accomplish.
When the sheet is completed, students can return it to me in the library. For every sheet returned, your student will be contributing to a collaborative piece of art in the library.
I will give your student another sheet and they can continue this for the entire school year. One lower grade class and one upper-grade class with the most sheets turned in will earn a special party hosted by myself and Mrs. Attell.
Thank you for supporting this effort to encourage reading and trying new types of books.
Your Oak Librarian,
Mrs. Celia Forrest

You’re Invited to the Third and Final Workshop!
Thank you to all of our community members who have participated in the Community Engagement Process for Facilities. We are truly overwhelmed by your enthusiasm and appreciate you adding your voice to this very complex issue.
Due to extremely high demand and participation in our last community engagement workshop, we are hosting a third and final workshop to help us understand levels of support for various potential options to house Bullis Charter School in the long term.
Final Workshop
Monday, November 18, 2019
Open House: 6-6:30pm
Workshop: 6:30-8:30pm

The workshop will allow participants to review potential facilities options and show their support for each possibility. To review materials for the workshop, including translated materials in Japanese, Mandarin and Spanish, please visit our Community Engagement Webpage.
Please only attend one workshop. The format is the same for all workshops. There is no need to participate in more than one. Attendance is limited to 400 people. Please give others the opportunity to participate on November 18th if you have already had the chance to participate in a workshop. Participants and community members are asked not to distribute materials related to the facilities discussion at the workshop.
Thank you for your ongoing support for our students, our schools and our community.
