School of Saint Mary FYI
November 12, 2021
Notes from Mrs. Maricle
1. Grandparents Day: The event has been set for April 29th, so mark your calendars. Attached is the information for the postcard contest. This is volunteer only for all grades.
2. Discover School of Saint Mary Week: We are participating in NCEA's Discover Catholic Schools Week, November 13-19th. A group of 8th graders have partnered with Home and School Campus Ministry and created a great week highlighting wonderful things about our school. This week is meant to promote our school and stir up excitement for the upcoming enrollment season. The schedule for the week is attached!
COVID-19 Updates
Week of November 8, 2021-
6 NEW student positives (all in mandatory quarantine)
Correction from Email: Since August 14, 2021, the school has been notified about 17 positive cases of COVID. 16 of those cases are students and 1 is staff. At least 70% of the positive cases can be fully attributed to family transfer and/or activities outside of the school. Of the 30% left, more than half of those cannot be directly tied to school transfer. For a building of 300 student with 3 times that in immediate family members, we are doing okay. Thankful for God's hands of protection!
*Note: These statistics are for PS-8th Grade.
Policy Change: An amendment has been made to the School of Saint Mary COVID Quarantine Policy that aligns with the Diocese of Tulsa amended policy of no longer mandating quarantines for close contact cases. The SOSM and Diocese of Tulsa policy documents are attached below.
COVID Testing: The Task Force has given approval for families to use either a PCR Test or a Molecular ID Test to return from quarantine. Saint Francis offers a free drive thru clinic that yields results in 24 hours.
Grace and Understanding: This is a gentle reminder that we need to be following in our Heavenly Father's footsteps in giving people grace and understanding during these difficult times with COVID. We field so many calls a day asking for guidance to ensure everyone is doing the right thing. Yes, COVID is real and scary, however, we also have students and staff suffering from seasonal allergies, head colds, pink eye, stomach bugs and various other ailments that could present as COVID. So much is unknown so we need to unite as a community to lift each other up each day and trust that each of us is doing their best for our school.
Note: We want families to be our partners in navigating school during a pandemic. If you have COVID comfort concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to your child's homeroom teacher. We are doing our very best to make accommodations as we can.
The School of Saint Mary Health and Wellness Plan for 2021-22 is posted below. We want to remind everyone that we review data often and we are committed to our plan being an evolving document based on trends in our area.

Announcements
Field Trips Drivers: Due to the lack of bus drivers, we will likely be asking parents to drive on future field trips for grades 3-8. All drivers MUST complete Virtus training and have a valid background check. If you think you will likely be a volunteer on a future field trip and want to get Virtus taken care of, please contact Courtney Leonard at cleonard@churchofsaintmary.com to get the process started.
